Samuel M. 'Sammy'
Getter
Brother Samuel M. "Sammy" Getter, 52, of Florida, formerly of Lehighton, North Carolina and California, was called off from labor on July 1 in Tampa, FL. Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Robert C. "Sam" and Karen M. (Everett) Getter. He was a 1981 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and also graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute.He served our country with the U.S. Navy and was currently employed as an engineer for Northrop Grumman, conducting crystal growth synoptics.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Sammy was a former member and officer of Lehighton F. & A.M. Lodge 621, Lehighton, and was currently a member of Lehigh Lodge No. 326, Macungie. He formerly sang in the Lehigh Valley Consistory Choir, Allentown, and held a membership at American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, the Rajah Shrine, Reading, the Oasis Shrine, Greensboro, N.C., and the Bahia Shrine of Lakeland County, FL.
He served on the staff of the East/West Shrine Football Game while living in Greensboro.
He was an avid Tampa Bay fan.
Surviving are three sisters, Bobbi-Jo, wife of Paul Willett in Florida, and Cynthia, wife of Bradley May, and Amanda, wife of Larry Keller Jr., both of Lehighton; two stepsons, Noah and Malachi King; a son, Cale Getter; two nieces, Mariah and Avery; and three nephews, Bradley Jr., Ben and Jack.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Jonah King.
Service: Celebration of Life service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Fredericks Grove Road, Lehighton, with the Rev. Robert Johnson II officiating. Interment with full military honors, Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Lehighton, under direction of Lehighton Area UVO, followed by joint Masonic services for Sammy and his father. Call 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, in the church. In lieu of flowers contributions in his and his family's honor may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Arrangements by Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Sam, Still cannot believe that you are gone. You were an amazing man who had a big heart and always could make me laugh.
