Betty Pomeroy Obituary

POMEROY

Betty Ann Hoyt

Betty Ann Hoyt Pomeroy, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, died peacefully on April 24, 2015, in Deerfield Beach, Florida at 89 years old. Born in Toledo, graduated from DeVilbiss High School, completed a two-year degree from Davis Business College, and married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Pomeroy in 1946.

Betty and Bob spent several years in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Bob served in the U.S. Navy and earned his master's degree at the University of Michigan. They moved to Dorseyville, Pittsburgh, PA. Betty cared for the family and managed household and finances. Her parents were Eleanore Thomson Hoyt and Paul Millard Hoyt; sister, Katherine Jean Hoyt Moench; half-siblings, Donald, John, James, and Judith "Marilyn" Hoyt; children, Stephen Pomeroy (Marilyn Mariano) and Christine "Tina" Pomeroy Lloyd (Marshall).

They moved to Sylvania, then back to Toledo in the early '50s. Betty's occupations were home and church life. She was a gifted soprano, singing by invitation and in the church choir from an early age. Creative and artistic, her talents were used in church community and in helping Steve and Tina with school and scout projects, and she designed and sketched beautiful costumes and ladies' dresses. She was very involved in church "circles" and had many friends. She worked as Church Secretary. Her kind and giving nature was known to all throughout her life. Her ever-present smile and sparkling blue eyes showed the beauty within.

In 1969 they moved to Deerfield Beach, where they owned and managed the Pomeroy Apartments Motel on A1A for 25 years. She and Bob retired at age 69 to a condominium on the Intracoastal Waterway, across the bridge from the former Pomeroy Apartments. Their days were filled with their six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, swimming, daily walks, church, and Bible study. Bob passed in 2005. Betty suffered from ALS for the last 15 years of her life.

Grandma, you will be missed. Thank you for all your love. I know I was not always the best granddaughter, and I am sorry for that. But I know you forgave me for all my transgressions and loved me unconditionally regardless of the way I treated you in my moments of fear and anger. I know your later years were very difficult because of health issues, although an outsider never would have guessed it from your unfailing positive attitude and loving words. We all love you so much grandma. So glad you are finally in heaven now with grandpa, though we will all miss you here on earth. Thank you for being you.

A tribute to our Mom
Mom you are the greatest Mom there is. From the earliest I can remember you loved, nurtured and protected me and Tina. You taught us how to love our family and to love God and country. You introduced us to God, Jesus Christ, church and the bible. Along with unconditional love you always respected our desires and took care of our every need, yet you taught us how to be independent and do things for ourselves. You taught us love of books and reading and so many things we take for granted.
Through your positive attitude I developed in the same way always looking at the bright side of any problem I had. You were always positive and supportive. You cared for and loved my children during hard times and any time I needed you were there.
Mom everything you did was done for others and you were the embodiment of a person with a servant's heart. You worked tirelessly as a loving wife and mother, raising us kids and then for the church and finally running the family motel in Deerfield beach. You and dad were the perfect example of a happy American family couple that stayed together and were a model for all of us to admire and emulate.
Your love of God and Jesus is evident in everything you do and always was. You always were and still are the best Mom a son could have.
Marilyn and I and our whole family will miss you very much, but rejoice in the knowledge that your earthly suffering is over and you are now face to face with our Lord Jesus Christ. I love you Mom.

Many memories of this caring lady since 1965. A prayer was said for her and minutes later I had received the news of her passing from my daughter. She was all about family. Thoughts of her with her heavenly family is comforting. God bless you, Betty/ Mom. Rest in peace.

OBITUARY

BETTY ANN HOYT POMEROY,

loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, died peacefully on April 24 in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Betty was 89 years old. Born in Toledo, she graduated from DeVilbiss High School, completed a two-year degree from Davis Business College, and married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Pomeroy in February, 1946.

Betty and Bob spent several years in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Bob served in the US Navy and earned his Master's Degree at the University of Michigan. Their son Stephen was born. They moved to Dorseyville, Pittsburgh, PA, where their daughter Tina (Christine) was born. Betty dedicated her life at that time to devotedly caring for her husband and children and managing household and finances. She always remained close to her mother, Eleanore Hoyt, her sister Kathy Hoyt Moench, her father Paul Millard Hoyt, and her half-siblings Don, John, Jim, and Judy.

A tragic accident spared little Stephen when he was 2 years old. Betty and Bob spent an agonizing 4 months visiting the hospital daily and praying for his recovery. Their Christian faith grew as he fully recovered.

Moving to Sylvania and then back to Toledo in the early 50's, they were able to share more time and Sunday dinners with Betty's mother and sister as well as Bob's wonderful parents Frank and Laura. Home and church life were Betty's sustenance. She worked as Church Secretary to pay for her daughter's college education.

The year 1969 brought them to Deerfield Beach, where they took over management of the Pomeroy Apartments Motel on A1A. Betty managed the full financial and day-to-day operations for 25 years. Her days were long and often arduous. Meanwhile, Bob had a full-time job while simultaneously maintaining motel buildings, grounds and upkeep.

They retired at age 69, making their home in a beautiful condominium on the Intracoastal waterway, right across the bridge from the former Pomeroy Apartments. Their days were filled with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, swimming, daily walks, church, and Bible study. Bob passed in 2005.
