Carleton SMALL Obituary

SMALL Carleton Joseph Jr. Carleton Joseph Small Jr., age 82, of Swanton, OH, passed this life on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was born October 10, 1929, in Toledo, OH, to Carleton J. Sr. and Nora (O'Brian) Small. His childhood years were lived in Inkster, MI. The majority of his life he lived in Swanton. He loved horses, his favorite, "buckskin". In his early years, he was a lifeguard at Toledo Beach for the Gladieux Brothers. When he wasn't working for Johns Manville, Koffman Construction, or later for the Jeep Corporation, from which he retired after 30 years of service, he enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially golfing, fishing, swimming, and hunting. He was an avid bowler on the Jeep league and also was catcher on their softball team. He was always looking for something to do outdoors- mowing, raking, burning leaves in the fall, and shoveling snow. He loved the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan Wolverines. On April 7, 1952, Carleton married Jeanetta Ruth Hall, and she survives, along with his children, Steven A. (Gloria) Small Sr., Jeffery M. Small, Brian K. Small, and Susan R. (Scott) Stewart; grandchildren, Steven A. (Melody) Small Jr., Gwendelyn M. Pitzen, Brandon J. Small, Jason (Summer) Hayton, Crystal Small, Brice Small, and Chelsea, Conner, and Cameron Stewart; 9 great-grandchildren, and sister, Barbara (Tom) Bodanski. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan McLennon. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, from 2-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631) and will continue Thursday, May 10, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Robert Dibbee officiating.
