Not sure what to say?

My condolences to the family. Brian is a great guy and it saddens me that he is gone. When I last spoke to him, he was in remission. I had no idea that he had taken a turn for the worse. I know that his family was his life and he loved his daughters very much. They were all he ever spoke of. :) May God guide you through this time. You'll be missed, Brian.

To the Drugge Family,

It was an honor for me to attend the celebration of Brian's life last Sunday.

The first year I was given the reins of a varsity baseball program, I was lucky enough to inherit one of the best teams in Rogers High School history, and Brian was one of its most prolific talents. In fact, because we were blessed with two wonderful second basemen, I played Brian "out of position" at third base in his junior year, mainly because he could handle it; to his credit (and yours, too, Bob!), he accepted the challenge, played spectacularly, and watched the other second baseman garner all-state honors. Not to be outdone, Brian played second base in his senior year and became the second all-stater in Rogers history. Brian let his work and play do the talking, and his excellence spoke very loudly on his behalf.

I had to laugh at the baseball card you gave me. I don't know if you looked at it closely, but the scab over Brian's lip happened when he took a bad hop and was hit in the face a couple of days before pictures; since he seldom missed a ground ball, my guess is that he took one off the ski slope we called the third base grass. I think "the look" in the picture was mainly a response to the ribbing he took from Pasqua and Hinkle during the photograph. As for third base? He owned it, a quality that was shared by brother Brett just a few years down the road.

As with you, I was devastated to hear of Brian's passing, and while I can't begin to understand such things, I know one thing: I feel pain in direct relationship to the joy that something brings me. Moments after the tears passed, a smile came to my face. How could it be otherwise? Brian's smile was omnipresent, a tilted smirk that always made you wonder what he knew, and what he was up to. I thought about asking him many times, but I always thought better of it . . .

Brian will always be a part of my life, and I will continue to be better for knowing him. The 5'5" or 5'6" part? It only made what he accomplished, on the field and in life, seem that much bigger.

I didn't coach you, Brian . . . you coached me!

Bob, Brian's relatives, especially his Mother and Janelle and all of Brian's close friends I send our family's condolences. Although we only knew Brian through your many letters and pictures of your family's celebrations, we felt very close to him and we want you to know how sorry we are that you have lost Brian at such an early age. God bless all and carry on his life's desires as if he were here with you. Everett, brother to Arnold.

Dear Sue and Family. Thank you for putting on such a wonderful memorial service for Brian. Even though we hadn't spoken for more than 20 years, my heart sunk when I heard the news of his passing. He was such a big part of my childhood and I will NEVER forget him. In the past 20 years, I have told countless stories about the friendship that we shared. He touched so many people and I am thankful that I got to attend his services!!! God bless all of you.

Janelle's heartfelt eulogy was so eloquent, she is a beautiful young woman. Brian's memory will live on in his beautiful children. My love to you all...Robin

In times like this, it’s so hard to consider the notion of Hope. But it was Hope that carried Brian and his family through each day. And it is Hope that will keep Brian in our hearts forever. He was an amazing father, a loving husband, and a great friend to us all.

“…And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm…”

Dear Drugge Family,

I am very sorry for your loss. As you can tell by all the messages, Brian was an outstanding friend to many.

I have had so many great memories of Brian coming into my mind since a friend emailed me about Brian's passing. I had the priviledge of being Brian's friend during our time at Ferrucci Jr. High and Rogers High School.

I heard that he was a husband and father, but had not opportunity to meet the beautiful family I see in the photos in this book.

Looking back, I appreciate even more the kindness and friendship Brian gave to myself and others. His love of sports and his work ethic to improve motivated me in my love of sports as well. I admired his focus - it was something you didn't see often in 7th grade.

Gods grace to your family.

Coach Dary

May 1, 2010

To the Drugge family I send my sympathy. When I saw his name I was in utter shock. I had the privilege of coaching Brian at Ferrucci Jr. High. When I saw his name I instantly thought back to the basketball game we played at the old Edgemont gym--the game he sank 7 or 8 three point shots. What a display he put on! I'm not sure, but I would venture that his performance that day still stands as one of the best shooting days by any Ferrucci player. He was a real competitor. I echo Coach Hovde's thoughts---you don't get too many Brian's in your teaching / coaching careers. I pray that the Lord will give you extra strength to get through your loss.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Brian. Brian was one of the most outstanding individuals I have ever had the pleasure of teaching and coaching. I have gotten to know thousands of kids in my 28 years of working in education and if I were to make a list of the TOP 10 individuals to pass through the halls of Ferrucci Junior High School Brian would surely be on that list. I will always have fond memories of Brian. He was one of the hardest working, respectful and brightest young men to ever play for me. Brian, you and your family are in my prayers. John 14:1-3
