Ellen Andersen Obituary

Ellen Andersen 8/26/1925 - 6/5/2011 Our precious Lord took her hand, led her home, helped her stand. She was tired, she was weak, she was worn. Ellen was born in Colville, WA to Beaulah and Homer Hartsell. She devoted her life to loving and serving the Lord - teaching Sunday School, was treasurer for many years at her church, Mt. Tahoma Holiness Chapel and the Pierce County Holiness Assn, and her selfless caring for others. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 55 years, Clarence; sister Esther Nelson, and brother John Hartsell. She is survived by daughter Sonja Ferri (John); sons Tim (Nancy) and Jim (Lynda); 9 grandchildren, Doug Drowley, John Ferri, Dayna Chmelka, Julie Schlepp, Suzanne Whitney, Daniel, Brian, Seth and Travis Andersen; 10 great-grandchildren Zachary, Jessica, Brice, Claire, Taylor, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Bailey, Rebecca and Charlie, brother Leonard Hartsell, brother-in-law Henry Andersen, and numerous nieces and nephews. We can't thank the staff enough at People's Retirement Community, St. Joseph's Hospital, Franciscan Hospice House, Orchard Park Nursing Home and Hospice (especially Angela) for their compassionate care. Ellen was sustained all her life by her love of Jesus and his love for her. She is already profoundly missed. A memorial service will be held at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 8902 40th St West, University Place, WA on Saturday, June 11, 2011 3pm. Remembrances recieved by the family will augment support of missionaries dear to her heart.

Ellen Andersen was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring and loving people I have ever had the privilege to know. She had a smile that would immediately help cheer you up and chase away whatever was troubling you. Ellen always had a special scripture for you and she loved to tell you about "her Jesus". I have known Ellen for more than 30 years and never once heard her say a negative thing about anyone. She always had a good view to counter any negative thought she might hear. Our family loved you dearly, Sis. Ellen Andersen, and you will always be in our heart and thoughts. Until we meet in Heaven, Love from Pat, Herb, Dawn, Tee, David and Tony. Give James a hug for us when you see him.

I was a friend of Sonja's, and during our teenage years I lived in the neighborhood. Ellen was always kind to me. She welcomed me into her home, fed me, and often included me in outings with her children. She was a devout Christian and lived her beliefs. And I will always have good memories of being in Ellen's kitchen in the house on K Street.
God Bless,
Linda Heady Pestana
