FERN FREDERICK Obituary

Fern A. Frederick Fern passed away 2/23. She was the daughter of Swedish immigrants who settled in the small farming town of Stanton, IA. Though nearly 97, her passing was unexpected and due to a sudden onset of a lung condition developed in youth from hay dust. We thought she would make 100. Fern (Andy) was known for her big hugs, twinkly laugh, and greetings of "Blessings Blessings!" She sang praises as she walked in nature, and raised her children to love the mountains, woods, and ocean as she did. She loved the Lord and danced His praise whenever the Spirit moved her. Fern was an accomplished artist and taught Junior High art in Burlington, IA, and Tacoma, and was active in Girl Scouts. She joined the Marine Corps during WWII, and the Mountaineers, where she met and married her late husband, Walker Frederick, in 1950. Fern was with her entire family as they played guitar and sang the old hymns she enjoyed. She got her wish to live at home until she died, and we were blessed to have her for so many years. She will be remembered in the hearts of many, but especially by her children, Karlin, Guy, Sharon and Heidi, and grandchildren Chris, Jennifer and Stephanie Skaggs. Memorial service at Church For All Nations, 111 112th St. E, Parkland, WA 98445, at 11am, Thursday, March 24, 2011.

Fern's big hugs and enthusiasm for our banjo band will always be remembered by Tacoma Banjo Club musicians. She and Karlin virtually attended all banjo practices and gigs, where if the spirit moved her, Fern would get up and dance so gracefully, so beautifully. She was one of our most precious fans. Fern will be missed terribly.
My sincere condolences to Karlin and the rest of the family. Thank-you for sharing Fern with us all these wonderful years. We grieve her loss.
Colleen, Tacoma Banjo Club
