Robert Eugene Mickelson

Robert Eugene Mickelson Robert "Bob" Mickelson passed away peacefully April 30, 2011 in Boise, ID. He was born February 25, 1924 in Sioux Falls, SD, and grew up in Minneapolis. A U.S. Naval Air Corps cadet, Bob earned his B.B.A. from University of Minnesota in 1948 and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1950. He married Mary Louise Cleave in Seattle in 1951. They raised two children, Marc and Heidi, in Lakewood, WA, making regular visits to Sun Valley, ID, and moved there in 1975. In 1981, he and Mary Lou divorced. He married Joan Donaldson Robb in 1983. Founder and President of Edelweiss Ski Wear, outfitter of the 1964 U.S. Olympic Ski Team, he also created, co-founded, and managed Alpental ski area. Career honors include induction into the Apparel Hall of Fame, 1957; the Pacific Northwest Ski Hall of Fame, 2004; Ski Industries of America, founder and original Board of Directors member. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Tyrholm, and his wife Joan Robb Mickelson. He is survived by his son Marc Mickelson, and granddaughter Cassandra Mickelson; his daughter Heidi Mickelson, son-in-law Danny Beritich, and grandson Zachary Mickelson; and four step-children. Bob's life will be celebrated Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm at The Grill at the Knob Hill Inn in Ketchum, ID.
