I loved Mike like a brother and in many ways he was my big brother.
I miss him and will forever be grateful for all he gave me as will all of us who served under his command.

I was honored and privileged to be appointed by B/G Walker as 74 AMES Commander and serve under his command in the 439 MAW. He inspired all to a level of excellence and possessed keen insight into the talents of people they never knew they had. The pride he instilled in his people was instantly visible and the first time the wing met him I felt that he totally energized the room with his presence, demeanor and belief in us. He was truly humble, and told me once "When I die, I just want people and my tombstone to say "He was fair". And so you were sir, and so you were. Thank you for what you made us all! Until we meet again....

Gen. Walker was the best Wing Commander Westover ever had. He and Carol visited our home many times. He was honest and truly cared for those under his command. He will be greatly missed, this country is better for his contriubtions. And he was one hell of a pilot! Our sincere condolences to his family.

Gen Walker was a great reservist in all aspects. He was the Guardian Angel for the AF Reserve Rescue units and personnel. He was especially protective of many troops including me. He fought the Devil for us. Thank you, Mike.

Had the pleasure of working under Gen Walker. I found him a kind, fair man. My son and I went to one of the homecomings for Desert Shield/Storm. Will never forget outpouring of love and support from the community.

Mike was a special person and leader of our Carson City class of 51. He was our president during our Sr. year. Mike and Carol hosted our last 3 class reunions which included our 60th. at their beautiful home. I am so glad to have known Mike and consider him a friend. My sympathy to all the family.

Gen Walker was one of the finest Commanders AFRC ever had. He was responsible for Westover being what it is today. He saw the future and lead us all to it. He was tough but fair, and cared about his people. Even in retirement he came back to see how everyone was doing, Rest in Peace "Iron Mike" Mission Complete.

Mike was a caring man, generous with his wisdom and optimistic outlook on life. He and Carol were a beacon of hope and light to all the lives they touched. His light and influence shall surely be missed. His deep abiding faith and trust in God made him a better man and leader in the path he was given to live. God Bless all the family as they celebrate his life and legacy.

A great man, leader and visionary. I learned so much from him, and he always stood by me.
The day after Mike learned he was not being retired, but was on the list for brigadier, he came into Base Ops
for stand-up, and we applauded. He said the star he was getting was our star, too. "Whenever you are doing
something good and need that extra push -- use my star."
Loved his attitude; "Regulations are merely the consensus of some committee on one possible way something might be accomplished."
Another management concept from Mike Walker was the 70-percent Rule -- Once more than two-thirds of the people understand a system or concept, the Air Force has to change it..."Sometimes we are ahead of the curve in that change."
Mike always believed in Management-Up, that the system does not change from downward communication but from good people on the ground doing the right thing so well that the Air Force ends up adopting the innovation as doctrine.

What a wonderful man and great leader. General Walker was a true visionary and was able to motivate his fellow airmen to a level of excellence in whatever he tasked them with. Our military lost a true leader when he retired. God bless you General Walker for all you achieved during your life.
