LAMAR HUGHES Obituary

Lamar Richard Hughes Lamar passed away at his home in Tacoma on June 10, 2015 at the age of 73, surrounded by his family, after battling pancreatic cancer. Lamar was born on January 24, 1942 in Vancouver, WA to Dick and Lola Hughes. He married his wife Sheila in 1963. Lamar loved "roughing it easy" in their motorhome, and fishing in Conconully, WA. Lamar passionately enjoyed the activities, smell, and sounds of a busy print shop. He taught graphic arts at Clover Park VTI after moving to Tacoma in 1968. He loved gadgets and was a "tinkerer" and a "fixer," using his hands and brain (and sometimes together!) to work on things and fix things for people. This is how he served others in God's kingdom and he was known for this trait in the family, in his church at Emmanuel Lutheran of over 40 years, and in the neighborhood around his home. Lamar is survived by his loving wife Sheila, son Rick (Debra) Hughes, daughter Heidi Hughes, brothers William and Dennis Hughes, grandsons Adam (Veronica) Cody-Hughes, Nicholas and Vincent Ramos, and Cameron Hughes, and two great-granddaughters, Naomi and Leona. There will be a celebration of Lamar's life on Sunday, June 14, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1315 N Stevens, Tacoma, WA 98406, at 2:00PM.

Thinking of you with Love...

I was made aware of Lamar's passing just recently in Salt Lake City. Felt a deep sense of sorrow. First met Lamar as a student at Clover Park where he taught Offset Reprographics. He gave me the confidence and taught me the skills that were able to help me support my family in this trade for the past thirty years. I was fortunate to be a co-worker with Lamar at Regence for a few years and enjoyed seeing him in action. I am deeply sorry that I was not able to make my last respects to a man that was truly dedicated to family and his profession. To describe his life I came to one word, "Selfless." Rest in peace my Teacher, colleague, my friend.

My family will definitely miss Lamar. He has has been our go-to when we can't get the mower, sprinkler, or anything else to work. Sheila, I could always see the love he had for you. So sorry for your loss!

Met Lamar in 1972 at CPTC where we both worked. He was a gem of a guy, so helpful. He retired, I left for another reason and met him again at Office Depot, I guess a couple of years ago. We had a great time visiting. I asked about him a few weeks ago. So sorry for your loss. Sandy Green
