ROWE, Va. – "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Mrs. Orpha Fletcher Arwood, age 87, of Rowe, Virginia, passed away Thursday morning, July 9, 2009, at her home. Born October 12, 1921 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Toy and Rosie McFadden Fletcher. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a homemaker and a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burk Arwood; four brothers, Everett Fletcher, Claude Fletcher, Ervin Fletcher and Donald Fletcher; two sisters, Emma Lambert and Francis Shortridge; and three grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Cutie Keene of the home; five grandchildren, Leslie Keene and wife Theresa, Lisa Hess and husband James, Phillip Keene and wife Pam and Carla Lester and husband Jackie, all of Rowe, Virginia, and Greg Keene and wife Debra of Cedar Bluff; three sisters, Mae Street, Gay Presley of Abingdon and Fayrene Wampler of Davenport; five great-grandchildren, Nikki Keene, Tiffany Keene and Cydney Lester, all of Rowe, and Jonathan Keene and Zachary Keene of Cedar Bluff; two stepgreat-grandchildren, LeAnn Justus and husband David and Jeremy Keen and wife Jessica; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Makayla Keen and Tylor Keen. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the home health workers and helpers. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ancil Childress and the Rev. Arvil Arwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday. Pallbearers will be Mike Fletcher, Gearld Fletcher, Harold Lambert, Delmer Fletcher, Jerry Fletcher, Eddie Fletcher, Johnathan Wampler and Jeremy Keen. Great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
