Howard Hayner Obituary

HAYNER, HOWARD TROY - Howard Hayner, 85 of 10 Downey Road, Troy/Brunswick has entered into eternal rest February 16, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 25, 1926 in Troy, NY, the son of Everett & Gertrude (Shaughnessy) Hayner. Howard grew up in Troy and was educated in the Troy School District as well as the Troy Business School. Howard served our country faithfully during World War II seeing action in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the US Navy Seabees. His family is most proud of his service for our country and he was only too proud to do his part for his country. He was a V.F.W. Post Commander (Post 557 in Troy). He was employed at Alleghany Lundlum Steel Co., the Watervliet Arsenal and later retired from the New York State Assembly as a Supervisor of two mail rooms in 1993. One of Howard's greatest joys was serving his community as Councilman for the Town of Brunswick, a job he proudly served in for sixteen years. He had a fondness for horses, visiting harness tracks, especially Saratoga where he enjoyed spending an evening plying his handicapping skills. He and his wife enjoyed their summers in York Beach, Maine and their trips to Myrtle Beach, SC. Howard was an accomplished, caring and dedicated man, having built his family's home (with assistance from his brother in law) and was always supportive of his family. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 59 years, Elaine Hayner, his children Paul, Steve, Diane (Columb) Devine and Laure (Randy) Premo and his cherished grandchildren Charles (Chas) & Alexander (Alex). As well as step children Alex and Cassie and a niece and nephews. He is predeceased by his twin brothers Bert and Bev. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor and especially Mary, Jerry Charmaine and all the wonderful nurse's aide for their loving care for Howard. Also the staff and nurses at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb 21st at 11:30 A.M. at St. Augustine's Church, Lansingburgh with burial to follow at Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Ave., Lansingburgh) on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Please except my condolences for your loss. Your husband/Dad/grandfather was a wonderful man. My parents were very fond of Howard as well. Since he belonged to the "Town of Brunswick" when my mom worked there, there are many happy memories of the Hayner family from my childhood.
