Dad, it's been 3 weeks now and I miss you dearly...I miss seeing you in your favorite chair when I visit Mom, your laughing and jokes with the kids. You were always there for me growing up even though I didn't always make the best decisions, I learned from the best. Thanks for everying you taught me in the last 53 years, you were so gracious till the end. May you be at peace there in heaven. I love you Dad.

Joan & Family,

I learned of Uncle Mel's passing after returning from our vacation. I am so thankful that we got the chance to see him over Christmas this past year. Even though we hadn't seen him much in recent years, thinking of him on occasion always has produced giggles within me because I've always remembered his great sense of humor and his quick wit! I will continue to remember and giggle! Our family sends our heartfelt sympathy to all of you in this time of loss.

Mel, I appreciate that you always included me as an extended member of the family. Your sense of humor, and gracious dignity remain a standard for us all. Take care up there in heaven, and save me a seat at the McKale Center!

I always knew my Uncle Mel by the nickname The King. Many, many others knew this nickname as well. When I was talking with him about that once, he said "You know who gave me that nickname don't you? I did!" And then he laughed. I also know he had another nickname of Cornfield from his days as a kid. He told me "I got that nickname because I could hit baseballs all the way to the cornfield; unfortunately, it was usually a foul ball over the backstop." And then he laughed. Just as important as his sense of humor were his generous spirit and caring nature. He made many trips north to Iowa to see family and he always took an interest in our lives. He invited me to his house for a spring break week when I was in college and he made sure I had a memorable trip. He will be dearly missed.

Dad , you were always there for me growing up and showed me so much by example. You gave me everything that was important in life. I have many memories playing sports, traveling, scouts, church and just fun home times. Later in life you were there for me and my family again. You never gave me any unwanted advice. If I had a question you would give me an honest answer. I always looked forward to a trip down to Tucson to see Grandpa and Grandma. You will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten. I hope I can carry on your traditions with my kids and future grandkids. I love you and cant wait to meet with you again one day. Thanks, Brian
