Constance Maraschiello Obituary

Constance Carol Hinzman Maraschiello 65, of Tucson, passed away Sunday morning, May 29, 2011 from complications following arterial surgery. Beloved wife of Chuck Maraschiello, she was born in Weston, WV, on April 28, 1946. She is also survived by her daughter, Christee Rothbard, and her husband, Daniel, of Las Cruces, NM; her grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah Rothbard; her son, John and his partner Lisa Nitti; her sister, Marilyn Grey of Wasilla AK and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy Maraschiello and Jonathan Kastner of Deep River, Connecticut. Connie grew up and spent most of her life in Tucson, and graduated from Rincon High in 1964. After she and Chuck were married on August 27, 1966, Connie took a position at Jacome's downtown then at a local Sears-Roebuck branch. When Chuck entered the Army, and was stationed at Fort Ord, California, Connie transferred to a nearby branch of Sears. After Chuck's military discharge he and Connie returned to Tucson and began their family. In addition to raising Christee and John, Connie volunteered for the Citizens Advisory Planning Commission, and served on the Board of Directors of the Tucson Center for Women and Children. When the children reached school age Connie returned to school: she entered Pima College, graduating with an Associate Degree (with honors) as a Paralegal. She joined the staff of the Pima County Attorney's Office, assigned to the Child Protective Services Division. Continuing her education, Connie received a BA in Management from the University of Phoenix. That degree earned her a transfer to the Pima County Department of Transportation as Project Manager for Flood Control, a position she proudly held and ably filled until her death. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and sister-in-law. She was generous, thoughtful, kind, good, grateful for her life and ever the optimist. She was a nature lover, particularly of fall leaves and spring daffodils. A great shopper, list maker and antiquer, she was a yard and estate sale afficionado. She loved being creative with her found treasures, accepting nothing less than excellence in her handicrafts as well as at work. She was a true nurturer and caretaker. Her love of life equaled her love of reading and of gardening, of decorating and of politics. She loved her pets, Oscar, her cat, and Cypher, her dog. She was a true and loyal friend. Above all, Connie loved her family. We'll remember Connie as strong, smart, brave, optimistic, caring, kind, classy, fair, tenacious, wise and vulnerable. Her heart of gold, wisdom and strength were treasures she shared with all of us and left us to embrace. Connie's Viewing will be at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church on Craycroft, Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at All Faiths Cemetery. I knew you when we were teenagers and it took the internet for me to see your photo again. There were many times I thought of your smile and how you made me laugh while I was overseas in the Navy during the 60's. Your passing is a loss for everyone and I send my deepest condolences to your family. That picture of you and I going to the prom with your sister Marilyn and Dan Nightingale will be a treasure for me to remember. Rest in peace and go with God. Jerry Wickstrom

Chuck and Connie had the kind of relationship I have always admired but rarely saw outside of fairy tales and Hollywood. She was an amazing person that brought a smile to everyone she met. My deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and friends.

Chuck and family
Deepest sympathies on the passing of a dear and gracious lady. Words seems so inadequate to express our thoughts for your loss.
I. too, was privileged to work with Connie at the PCAO's Civil Division. Connie's ability to touch others was matched only by her sweetness and decency -- attributes which she exhibited so effortlessly for all.
She will be missed.

We knew Connie and Chuck at Ft. Ord California and quickly became great friends and spent a great deal of time together. We still have photos of our eldest son that Chuck took. AS I remember, Connie loved to cook and she is the only person I have ever known who cooked a Mayoniase Cake. Delicious! IF you want the receipe just let me know.

Finally, Connie and I were pregnant at the same time. She delivered first and I took care of Christee for two weeks while Chuck and Connie got ready for her in Tuscon. For more than a week after I gave birth to our daughter, MIchelle............I called her Christy.

We cherish the memories and Chuck, we will think of you often.

Connie was a beautiful person both inside and out. I am so sorry that she left all of us so soon. Chuck, know that you were dearly loved by her. Christee and John, she was so proud of the adults you grew up to be. As to her grandbabies-she was the ultimate proud grandma with a picture always near so she could brag on how beautiful they were. I know you all will miss her, as will I, but her memory will last us forever. She was truly one of the gems of this world. I loved her and will miss her.
