Doris Towle Obituary

Doris Reiner Towle Age 78, of Tucson, died on July 22, 2012, at Emeritus at Tanque Verde following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on October 22, 1933, in Hays, KS, daughter of Frank H. and Lorena Welty Reiner of Natoma, KS. She and brother, Charles grew up and attended school in Natoma. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in St. John's Lutheran Church. Doris graduated from Colorado Woman's College, Denver, in 1953 with an Associate in Arts degree. While at CWC, she met her future husband Stewart. She attended the University of Kansas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in education, June 6, 1955. She was a member of Kappa Sigma Sorority at KU. On June 5, 1955, she was united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church, Natoma, KS to Stewart W. Towle. Their first home was in Regensburg, Germany where Stewart served with the 237th Combat Engineers. After the service, the couple lived in Douglas, Morenci and Benson, Arizona. From 1989 to 1996, they lived in Littleton, Colorado. In retirement, they moved to Tucson in 1996. For years, they spent summers in their small cabin in Colorado. Doris was active in community affairs and politics. She was a community representative for the American Heart Association in her Arizona locales. In the National Federation of Republican Women, she held Chairman and officer positions in local chapters and served as a regional director in Arizona. She was Greenlee County Republican Chairman for four years and served on the Arizona Republican State Executive Committee. Long a member of WAAIME, she was a past president of the Tucson-San Manuel Section. Until the 1980's, she was substitute teacher in public schools. She then became a Travel Consultant and Accredited Cruise Counselor working for 18 years with agencies in Tucson, Denver and Littleton. Her Lutheran faith was very important in her life. She was an active church member. She was a founding member of Peace in the Valley Lutheran Church in Benson, and served as a congregational officer in its early years. She has been a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church and it's LWML since returning to Tucson. Doris loved to play golf. She enjoyed travel, traveling extensively, domestically and foreign. She was particularly proud to have visited all 50 states. She is survived by husband, Stewart; children, Karl (Lisa) Towle of Cary, NC, Heidi Towle, Tucson, Sharon Towle (Steve) Waddell of New Windsor, NY, Thomas (Barbara) Towle of Parker, CO and grandchildren, Ashley, Hilary, Karla, Lindsay and Elise and brother, Charles Reiner of Park Ridge, IL. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at East Lawn Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and Alzheimer's Association.
