Edward Tuohy Obituary

Edward Tuohy Passed away March 23, 2015. I want you to know what kind of man my father was. Edward Tuohy lived 72 years, was a husband for 43, and a father for 28. He led by example in all he did. He was a master pilot, a careful mechanic, and a steward of nature. Born in Canada, he became a United States citizen and was most at home on a quiet lake. An animal lover, he would always try to nurture a wounded creature back to health. A stranger in a strange land, he traveled the world with the love of his life, a woman every bit his equal. He was a considerate, kind, and caring brother. He was a man among men to his son. He killed a bear, because he had no choice. He flew a diamond smuggler off an African beach at midnight. He flew a helicopter right over the heads of a company of Syrian infantrymen. He built a cabin in the Alaskan wilderness with his bare hands, and some power tools, and some friends. He saw the good in people he tried to help. He said he'd take luck over skill any day, but he was incredibly skilled, and we were incredibly lucky to have him in our lives. He cheated death a hundred times and died peacefully in his sleep. What a wonderful world he created with us.

My sympathy and condolences to Edward's family and friends, may he rest in peace. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Edward but I have met a number of bush pilots over the years; from Maine to Manitoba to Alaska to Fiji. They're men and women who are truly a breed apart, the embodiment of the pioneer out on what remains of the frontier. It's said that there are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are very few old, bold pilots. As a class though I suspect that bush pilots have a higher ratio of the old & bold type amongst their ranks. From what I've read so far Edward sounds like a remarkable piece of work. And if the son is the reflection of the father, well, they've both done real good.

Maureen and Andrew, I am so very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I feel so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him, you and Andrew! Ed was a very special man who helped so many and was widely respected in the aviation field, truly an expert! Our prayers and thoughts are with you and Andrew at this time!

Maureen and Andrew, we share your sadness in Ed's passing. He was a fine neighbor and friend to us, and we delighted in hearing him tell about your travels together and your cabin in Alaska. Andrew's beautifully written tribute to Ed told us much we didn't know about Ed's early adventures around the world. He lived life full out, and was an inspiration to us all.

We will truly miss Edward Francis Tuohy. He loved the water and fishing and having moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona we were fortunate to have had Edward and the rest of the family here to visit. We had a few boat rides and most recently a fishing trip with his brother Robert, as luck would have it a large mouth bass was caught and released. The two brothers were very happy to have had that time together. Thanks for all the memories Edward ❤

I knew Ed through Boy Scouts. You can see he was great father by his son, who is a fine young man.
