Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Darrel D. Kasson US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

I served with Darrel back the Artillery days. He was a constant positive presence in my life when I was struggling. I love him and miss him everyday. If anyone can please text me and let me know where his grave is, I'd greatly appreciate it. 623-866-8641

I periodically reflect on those people we owe so much too; those few who make the selfless sacrifice for others, with such final but enduring consequences. I feel ashamed some times that I don't appreciate my life and what I have - yet I have so much.
Darrel Dwayne Kasson will be a name that is always remembered in my household; his is the face I use to remind me that these are real people that I serve with, real people that may not return home tonight, and real people who put the love for their families and the protection of the innocent first and foremost.
I share the celebrations of my 'day of birth' with the reminder of Darrel's passing; this connection will ensure he is remembered outside of his immediate friends and family.

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Went to the Florence prison on the anniversay of your being KIA in Iraq. My sister Jan, Jack and 2 friends from the guards to visit where you worked. They have dedicated CB Kasson in memoory of you and talked with some of your friends there that you worked with. They all miss you so much. They took us to where your desk was and put up a huge picture of you. It was very emotional, but so proud of all you worked for. I will post the pictures soon. Love and miss you. We will never forget.

Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus, while at the same time we remember the lives of those men and women who have given selfishly to preserve this world of those they leave behind. Today my families thoughts go out to those who have lost loved ones in past and present wars; but only after praising our Lord Jesus Christ for granting us the chance to share this life with them for however short a time that may be. Darrel is remembered today, as is all our brave soldiers, sailors and airmen - I pray that those feeling the pain that can only be experienced through the loss of a loved one can find comfort in their Christian belief.

Today is Remembrance Day. At the 11th hour on the 11th of November each year Australians observe a moments silence to remember those who have given their life for the freedom of others.
Today is a day where not only Australian Soldiers are remembered, but all of our coalition partners who have given their lives to support common causes - as bothers in arms.
Today Darrel Dwayne Kasson is remembered as much as any Australian Soldier is remembered for the sacrifice he has made for my freedom; the freedom of my family; and the freedom of his own family, friends and countrymen – may he rest in peace.

October 4, 2010

Today is Oct. 4,2010 and I miss Darrel so much my heart breaks day after day. He was a leader and a family man tht put everyone else before himself. I can still see him the last time I saw him. I didn not get to spend time with him before he left due to family problems. I know that Darrel knew I loved him and I know that he loved me. We had talked alot before he left and I gave him my love and support. He is missed by so many, his unit, his work and by family members. I know I will see him again in the the future. Loe never ends for us.

For the family that Darrel left behind I would like to offer my sincere but humble gratitude for the sacrifice this soldier has ultimately made. I am in the Australian Special Forces and was serving in Iraq at the Counter Insurgency Academy based out of Taji in March 2007 - Darrel passed away on my 41st Birthday. I have just purchased a Memorial Bracelet inscribed with Darrel’s details and, with the permission of his surviving family, I would like to honour the dedication Darrel made for the freedom of the innocent by displaying his picture next to an American flag that I was presented and proudly display in my home office.
Though little comfort it may be, I offer you the thoughts and prayers of my family as you patiently wait the day you rejoin with Darrel in Heaven.
Yours in Christian fellowship -

To all,
Be strong as Darryl knew the risks of his job as LVC. By him knowing that he could pay the ultimate sacrafice also tells me he would want everyone to be stong. Never forget him, always remember him for the hero he is. But be happy for him, as he is a child of God he now sits with Jesus in heavin in his perfect body. Counting the days until he sees us all again. If you want to remember Darryl you need to be strong as he would be disappointed if anyone spent their lives mourning him. Instead grow closer to God so you may join in one day. He is in a place better than any of us can imagine. A vacation to a paradise beyond our realm of comprehension. Stay strong in God and one day you will be with him agian. I know one day Darryl and I will be talking about old times. The night he died he stood at the shop in Q-west for a hour with me while I bought a Guitar. I remember that day, as me and my battle buddy spent the whole day with him. I charish being the one that spent the last day with him.

As I sit here I find that my heartache has only deepened the loss of my son. I find myself thinking of Darrel when he was a yioung boy and all of his hopes and dreams. He was so looking forward to retiring from the Guards and his job at the prison, said he could work for another 20 years and have 3 retirements. He wanted to move to the White Mountains as he loved it up there. He was so close and we miss him as much today as to the day he died. I know tht he is now at peace and free from all the problems of this world. Sleep well my son. I love you

I knew SSG Kasson as a good fraind. I lived beside him and we talked alot and even played softball togather. He is a person that would give you the shirt off his back just to be able to help you. He was one of the most hardest working person i ever seen. He worked a full time job at Arizona department of coreections. After he would complete his shift there he would move on to his side job as a carpenter. He would do many jobs for the pepole of Florence Az. He even would spend lots of time improving his church he atteded. I seen Darrel off the day he had left for training. I ensured that I made time to see him. There is not a day that I don't think of him. That night I was informed of his death i was very saden and to this day i am still very saden and miss him. Darrel touched my life as no one has ever did. I miss you and never will forget you

I only now after the loss of Todd, find the words to express my sadness over the death of Darrel. I, along with his platoon that he protected daily, was there that dark night of 04MAR07. We all did what we thought was right according to the training we had to save him. Each and every one of us would have traded places with him but instead God chose him as the soldier to represent us in heaven. Even though Darrel will forever be missed on earth, I know that he is "scouting" for us from above and now watching out over all of us. Thank you Darrel for your sacrifice. You will never be forgotten. As before, train Todd for his new job. God Bless You, Darrel.

Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Darrel in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

SSG K and I served in Iraq and bunked acrossed from each other at Camp Shelby, MS during our training. We would spend time sitting out side the barracks at night in MS,and talk while waiting to call our families on our cell phones. We talked about our families when we waited. Also both being squad leaders we talked alot about our soldiers, leadership, and what would happen too us all. At night before bed you would find us both reading the scriptures and later we always compared favorite sciptures that would help us or our soldiers get through rough times. How many times the Lord tells us fear not for I am with you is amazing!

The last time we saw each other we did't have time to talk, just a quick nod and a smile.

With in a couple of days of each other our unit suffered our first serious injuries and then SSG K's death. It was a bad time for most but afterward I would say that was what pulled our unit together the most. Soldiers stepped up and took charge, looked to fill the shoes of good people, some turned more to God, everone was changed most for the good,.....we made it home!

He won't be missed, you can't miss someone who is always with you!

Edmund Burke said "The only thing neccessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".

SSG K was not one to do nothing!

I hope your family can overcome morning his death and live to celibrate his life.

SSG Kasson was a great friend and mentor to me while we served together in Iraq. He and I would go to the red cross together and study the Bible when we had time to do so. I miss him and selfishly would wish that he dident have to leave us. I know though that he is in a better place and waiting for his brothers and sisters in Christ to join him.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I have prayed for all members of the Kasson family since reading of yet another hero giving his all for our freedom. Thank you to Darrel and his family for such a great sacrifice. I have deep feelings for the family even though you do not know me. However Darrel's dad Dale was the love of my life at Amphi high school. And of course I knew Leo. I had the joy of meeting Darrel one time at the construction company I worked for. I Praise God hearing that he is a Christian. That is the ultimate for everyone's life. I hold all military close to my heart because my family members from my Grandfather's down to my own son's served in the Military. Two of my son's were Marines and one son was in the Army. They served in the first Gulf War, Desert Storm.
May our Lord give peace and comfort to each of you with the memories of your beloved hero.

My deepest sympathy to the Kasson family. My biggest thanks to Sgt. Kasson for his sacrifice and for serving our country. A friend of mine was with Sgt. Kasson, my friend's life was spared. I include a couple paragraphs from the e-mail I received from my friend.

"I really do appreciate the prayers and thoughts. And the loss of that really good guy hurt me pretty good in my, normally, stone cold heart !!

He was one of the special ones on this earth !! When he was dying and looked up at me and told me to let him go, that there was nothing I could do for him, and that I couldn't save him - - - I was pretty sure he just gave up and let his God take him somewhere better than this place !! And you know I don't have a belief in that stuff, but he did (He was a very strong believer) and that is what counts !!"

Your family will by in my thoughts and prayers.

At Camp Shelby, Darrel became know as Preacher. His faith was a light to many in the 259th SECFOR, including my husband, Sgt Tray Romine. As soon as the troops were able to resume communication with home last week, Tray emailed me. He was obviously upset and touched by the loss of his friend. He was inspired by the faith ever present in Darrel even when dealing with less than pleasant items.

Darrel improved the soldiers around him and we have all lost a piece of ourselves with his death.

are not worth comparing with the glory
that shall be revealed in us."

Breaks my heart at another loss of a fine Soldier..God Bless you and your family!!
You will be forever missed !!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
