Lillian Brown Obituary

TUSCALOOSA Lillian Brown, age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died Jan. 29, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A private graveside service will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Chaplain Bill Thetford officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Born Oct. 23, 1923, in Gordo, Mrs. Brown attended Gordo High School and The University of Alabama. Upon the outbreak of World War II, she left school to help in the War Department in Washington, D.C. Returning to Tuscaloosa, she worked at Northington Hospital for two years and then as Registrar at the University of Alabama School of Chemistry and School of Engineering for 25 years.

She was a member of various civic, church, and social organizations and was an avid traveler, having visited all 50 states and 31 countries. Her last years were spent as an unofficial hostess of Capstone Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Jackson Brown and Vassie Rona Koon Brown, both of Tuscaloosa, and her husband, Dr. Robert Dixon Brown, also of Tuscaloosa.

Survivors include her sister, Pauline Brown Blakeney of Greeneville, Tenn; her brother, Jack Cole Brown (Lou) of Tuscaloosa; nephews, Revis Blakeney, Jr. (Julie), Tommy Brown (Suzie), and David Brown; nieces, Lois Carol "Bunny" Brown Drueke (Joe) and Dianna Brown Williams; great-nephews and nieces, Alethea Carr (Bill), Alex Drueke, Ben Drueke, Kyle Brown, Jessica Brown, Ellen Williams, and Mei Williams; and great-great nieces, Aubrey Carr and Elizabeth Lillian Carr.

Pallbearers will be Joe Drueke, Alex Drueke, Kyle Brown, Bill Carr, Bob Cleere, and David Edward Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Essential Tremors Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of West Alabama.
