Charles Neren Obituary

Neren, Charles (Charlie) of St. Paul Passed away on June 9th at the age of 94. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Shirley Ruth; brothers, Moshe, Irving, Herman, Samuel and Nathan; sisters-in-law, Leah, Elaine and Hannah; brother-in-law, Jack. Survived by loving children, Howard Neren (Eileen) and Judith Neren Dean (Robert); grandchildren, Brian and Heather (Steve); great-grandchildren, Emerald, Riley and Conner; brother, Mel (Joan); sisters-in-law, Libby Cahn and Shirley Neren; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Charles immigrated from Poland at a young age with his family and was a proud resident of St. Paul's West Side. He was a man of many interests. Charles was a past officer of Sons of Jacob Synagogue and a long time board member of the Temple of Aaron. He enjoyed boating and fishing on White Bear Lake for over 50 years. At the age of 20 he marched as a drummer with the St. Paul Elks. He was a 50 year member of the Masonry and past captain of Osman Shrine Drum Core. Charles owned and operated Neren Cattle Company in South St. Paul for 50 years and is remembered fondly by his past employees and co-workers. He was one of the only surviving members of the original Hook-m-Cows Horse Patrol, participating in St. Paul Winter Carnivals and activities around the state. He was a true Renaissance man, having taken up the art of miniature making at the age of 75. A film about his life, entitled Legacy, was recently aired at the Minnesota Historical Society this past year. He will be remembered always in the hearts of his relatives and legions of cherished friends. A funeral service will be held TUESDAY, June 12th, 12 NOON at HODROFF-EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 671 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul with burial following at West Side Hebrew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. SHIVA, Temple of Aaron, 616 S. I appreciated meeting your Dad and seeing his great minature handwork. What a wonderful legacy that he created for other generations to enjoy and marvel over. He was a positive cheery man.

i am so sorry that you lost your father . we wish we could of been there for you and your family. you told us so much about him. i know that he was a great man. the angels took him home so he could of been out of the pain he was in . god needed him for something up in heaven. he is now with his wife . he will be greatly miss . love jennifer schlecht and david forrest

Charlie was a great man. He was kind and caring. I loved being around him. He set many examples on how to be a good person and was an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed.
