Paul B. Koehler

NEWBURY - Paul B. Koehler, M.D., 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at his home in Newbury, after a period of declining health.

He was born in New Haven, Conn., the fourth child of the late Oscar and Isabel (Dilg) Koehler. Paul grew up in Greenfield, Mass., where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Greenfield High School as class president in 1942. He was an alumnus of Yale University, class of 1945W, and Yale Medical School, class of 1948. Paul served as a Navy lieutenant during the Korean War. He practiced pediatrics and general medicine for some years before working for several pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies. He retired to New Hampshire in 1991, where he enjoyed caring for his property and attending Yale football games.

Paul was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Lorraine (Mahan) Koehler. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Margaret (Morgan) Koehler; four children, Shawne Kaeser and her husband, James, of Chester, Va.; Paul Jr. of Fishers, Ind.; Kristin O'Connor of Redding, Conn.; and Thomas Koehler, his wife, Carol, and her two children of Simsbury, Conn. Also surviving are Margaret's children: Jeanne Eadie, her husband, Daniel, and one child of Glen Rock, Pa.; Lincoln Miller, his wife, Amanda, and two children of San Francisco. He leaves eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

services: Paul donated his remains to the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Redding, Conn., on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, or a charity of one's choice.
