Peter Bourassa Obituary

ROSLINDALE, Mass. - Peter Robert Bourassa, 52, of Roslindale, passed away on Nov. 15, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Manchester, N.H., to Emery O. and Georgette (Raymakers) Bourassa, he leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Marc and Phyllis-Ann Bourassa of North Andover; two nephews, Alex and Jack Bourassa, and one niece, Anayra Joy Bourassa, all of North Andover. He will be remembered with great tenderness by his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, his beloved dog Jasper, and countless friends, especially Steven Bassett.

For most of his life, Peter worked in real estate development and construction in the Boston area and in Naples, Fla. His company, Kinsman Construction & Development, was named after the Kinsman Mountain Range, a tribute to his love of hiking, particularly in the White Mountains. He was a member of the "White Mountain Four Thousand Foot Club," scaling every significant peak in New Hampshire with Jasper by his side.

An avid runner, he raced in numerous events, including the Mount Washington Road Race and the B.A.A. Half Marathon while fighting cancer. As a youth, Peter was very active in Scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Although his life was short, it was full. Peter's wit, graciousness, and smile will be forever in our hearts.

Peter was a dear friend of mine during our young teen years in Manchester. I remember so clearly his sense of humor and kindness. I regret that I did not stay in touch with him as we grew older. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends, I know he will be greatly missed.

I met Peter in the early 1990's when I began my first business venture in Boston. He kept an office for his construction firm in the same building. We'd hang out on Friday afternoons....sharing our work week woes and often hilarious events with each other. I lost contact with Peter after he moved to Florida and sadly, regrettably, did not see him before he passed away. He was an awesome guy and I'll never forget him. My sincere condolences to his family.

This is such sad and shocking news to read about the death of Peter. I had not seen nor heard about him since the end of our school days at good old Manchester Memorial High in 1979. Apparently, from the Union Leader obituary, he had done pretty well in life with his endeavors into real estate, construction, mountain hiking, and running. I regret that I never got to bump into him over these past 34 years. (Especially since I also run.) I am writing because Peter was actually one of my childhood best friends for about four years while we attended Jewett Elementary School. We did all the usual stuff active pre-teen boys of the early 1970s engaged in, such as going to each others' houses, playing sports, riding bikes, getting into fights, making up afterwards, and just plain having a LOT of fun. The story of my youth would be a very incomplete one without the inclusion of Peter. My best memory of him was that of a great human being who was nice enough to put up with me. He certainly deserved better, much better when it came to the outcome of his life. If there indeed is a "better place", I'm hoping that Peter is already there. My sincerest condolences to his older brother Marc and to all of rest of his family members.
