Phyllis Bates Obituary

Ashland - Phyllis Forbes Bates, 91, died at the Golden Crest in Franklin on April 28, 2014, following a period of declining health. Born in Ashland on Dec. 2, 1922, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Paine) Forbes.Phyllis spent her early years in New Hampton on Dana Hill, where she attended the one-room school. She later moved to Ashland, where she made her home for many years. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1939 and went on to business school in Laconia for two years.In 1949, she was married to Henry Bates and raised her family in Ashland. She was employed at L.W. Packard Woolen Co. in Ashland for many years in the office. She was a Cub Scout leader for Troop 57 in Ashland, a 4-H leader, and during her retirement, she volunteered at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. She enjoyed sewing, bird watching, playing cards, traveling, camping and bus tours.She was predeceased by her husband, Henry C. Bates, on July 5, 2005.Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Boisvert, and husband Ken of Wells Maine; her son, Dana Bates, and wife Lynnie of Campton; two grandsons, Brian Boisvert of New York and Daniel Boisvert of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews..

SERVICES: Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Dupuis Funeral Home Hill Avenue in Ashland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, at the Ashland Baptist Church, Main Street, Ashland, at 2 p.m., with burial to follow in Green Grove Cemetery, Main Street, Ashland.
