SCOTT FOLCK Obituary

FOLCK, SCOTT EDWARD June 4, 1977 to Sept. 23, 2012 Scott Edward Folck, 35, of Rancho Bernardo, died at approximately 1:00 a.m. on September 23, 2012. He was the second child of Forrest Edward Folck and Sally Rene Markley. Born in San Diego, Scott was an honors graduate of Patrick Henry High School in San Diego in 1995. He later graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Scott was employed by Taylor Made Golf in Carlsbad, California where he worked as an Engineering Manager. Scott's loss will be felt deeply by his friends and collogues at Taylor Made. Scott was an enthusiastic triathelete and cyclist. He was training for his avocation when he was hit by a car on September 16, 2012 while riding his bicycle. He died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision. Scott's love of the ocean and sports was only surpassed by his love for Sheryl. He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Lynn Talmage Folck; stepson, Shane; his father; his mother; his sister, Christine, and several other relatives. Services will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd., La Mesa, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those interested, send donations to the Scott Folck Memorial Fund at California Coast Credit Union. Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He packed a lot of living into his 35 years. He put his all into everything he tackled. His hugs and smiles will be missed.

Our deepest condolences go out to Cheryl, Shane and Scott's family. I met Scott and Cheryl from coaching Shane for RB Little League. I was always impressed when Scott would share with me how many miles he did on his bike. I also enjoyed hearing his comments about living a healthy lifestyle. He was always at the games to cheer us on. The Takeshita Family (Eric, Julie, Nolan and Kaylie)

Scott was an inspiration and privilege to work with at TaylorMade. He was an amazing person who would always go the extra mile. I'll miss him as a colleague and, most importantly, as a great friend. Rest in peace, Scott.

My thoughts go out to the Folck family.

I met Scott at Dailard Elementary, and enjoyed adventures through school and Scouts with him for years after. I think the biggest thing I'll always cherish about Scott is how I was such a nerd back then, and, even though he was well entrenched in the "cool" crowd, he so genuinely reached out to befriend and include me in his circle. He was confident, yet not ostentatious. He stood up for the values he believed in and, sometimes in the process, challenged the actions and words of those around him. He was a humane person who valued people for their strengths, not their status. I will always celebrate this about Scott.

My deepest condolences to Scott's family & friends. I was fortunate enough to work with Scott for 5 years @ TMaG, and his smile was one of a kind. I will always remember our Cal Poly Engineering Recruiting trip as a fond memory. He was so proud of his alumni university and his fraternity house. Thoughts and prayers with you.

September 28, 2012

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Folck family. Scott will be missed by all who knew him.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.
With Deepest Sympathy,

In Mammoth today thinking about you. I remember when you road your bike down to the campgrounds and back, deciding that you had it in you to do it yet again, so down went and back you came! It's an extraordinarily difficult climb but you did it twice! Hincapie would be proud ;)

Scott, you are greatly missed at the 5:30am spin classes at the Studio. It is very quiet and our heads are down, but then Meredith came up with a song list of your favorite spin songs, and we have been paying tribute to you and feeling the energy you always gave our classes in the mornings all week! Tears have been turning back to sweat, and the crew has really seemed to get closer knowing life is so short. You will always be in the mirrors with us as we continue on the bikes, and will never be forgotten by myself for sure. I had to always make room next to you when we did weights, and you were so motivating to work out next to. I put my requests in early, as it was crazy fun!!! Thanks for 2 years of wonderful, yet exhausting times at the Studio and for pushing me to my limits! You are such an inspiration to us all and an amazing athlete!XOXOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!!

I met Scott in back in grade school when we were both in Cub Scouts; one of my first and best memories being the Vallecitos bike-trip through the desert that he and I both rode once in our new Boy Scout troop. It was clear by his abilites that Scott belonged on a bike, as well as on the volleyball court, and under the hood of a car... the list goes on. I like to remember that first bike-trip to the desert as when we became better friends, but I also remember it being the weekend I first heard the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers...thank you Scott!! Scott's style spoke for itself; His foundation genuine, his friendship fierce, and his spirit strong. I was always somewhat captivated by the great and strange things about life you believed worth cherishing. I remember them, and I will do my best to cherish them.
Keep ridin' Scott!

I did not ever meet Scott but, Rene, I feel like I did know him. From your stories and from things I've read and from pictures I've seen, I would say these words from his obituary are very true, "He put his all into everything he tackled."

Only hearts and memories can fill the void for the words that fail to describe such a young and vibrant life lived too briefly, the grievous holes in lives left behind. Luckily, the memories are rich and the hearts are full, the solace that remain for those who loved Scott so deeply. Ride on, for that is all that is possible, and know that the ride is shared by many...

Praying for peace and comfort for family and friends during this difficult time. I have such great memories from childhood to adult with you Scott...until we meet again my friend.

Many of us first knew you as the gregarious volleyball player at Jr. High Camp, Camp Cedar Glen. A group of us formed a strong connection back then, worshiping the Lord together was an unbreakable bond we all still share on some level. There are so many wonderful memories connected to that time in our lives. We all still remember that purple hair, oh the hair…Your devotion to The Cure was well known as you ROCKED your Robert Smith hair with pride! I will never forget going to the Cure concert with you and Ben in high school. You were an amazing drummer and your love and understanding of music, especially at such a young age, transcended so many others. You were so athletic. I always enjoyed when you and Eric had soccer practice at the same time my team did, as I often looked forward to saying “hi” to you guys back then. You were quite the defender on the field. Many remember you as a cyclist and triathlete but I remember you as a soccer player! You cherished your Toyota Supra in high school and so enjoyed the weekend mornings that you and your dad detailed and tinkered on that car. I am thankful to have ridden in her with you back then. As the years passed we lost touch and I thought about you and wondered where life took you. In our mid-twenties I got the chance to find out where you had been, running into you at a Coldplay concert at SDSU. There you were, all grown up, confident and handsome. Luckily, our friendship remained, like it had never left and we began communicating once again. Blessed by our personal relationship, I am so thankful to have known you on such a special level. Snowboarding with you, surfing with you, and buying a road bike because of your love of biking, I will enjoy the memories. You gave me courage to reach beyond myself and to live life to its fullest. There were many lessons we learned together about life, love and relationships. Thank you for the gift that you were to my life, to my family's life. My dad still totes his TaylorMade clubs around with pride, bragging about knowing you, Scott Folck, Engineer extraordinaire. We will always have the “Strawberry River” and the “SFP” but more importantly Scott, our hearts break because you are no longer with us; however, I know that you have just “graduated early” and we should all be celebrating your arrival home with our Lord and Savior. God bless you Scott Folck.
