MERCEDES, TX. - Reynaldo Cornejo, 84, a lifetime resident of Mercedes passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012.
He was born March 23, 1928 in Mercedes, Texas to Santos and Beatrice Cornejo.
He is survived by his Loving wife of 53 years, wife: Mary Ella Closner Cornejo of Mercedes, Texas, 1 sister: Armandina ``Many' (John David) de La Garza of Mission, 2 Brothers: Manuel (Maria) Torres of Weslaco, Rudy (Irene) Torres of San Antonio, Sister-n-Law: Emilia Torres of Mercedes, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cornejo Served in the United States Army and received a degree in Radiology, her later attended and graduated from Pam American University and received his Bachelor's degree in Education, he also attended College Station University and received a degree in Drivers Education. He was employed for 16 years by the United States Customs as a Radiologist. He was a 10 Year board member for the Mercedes Public Library, and he was also a member of the Mercedes Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. @ Rudy Garza Funeral Home-Chapel of Peace.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 23, 2012. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
Interment will then follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco, Texas.
Pallbearers are: Robert Garcia, Oscar Moreno, Bobby Closner, David Closner, David de la Garza & David Lopez.
Military services are under the auspices of the American Legion Post #205 of Harlingen Texas.
The Cornejo, Closner & Torres families would like to express their sincere gratitude to Luz Maria Castro, Maria Valadez & Flor Estela Garcia for their care and attention they extended during Reynaldo's illness.
