Martha Schwartz Obituary

The Woodlands - On February 12th, 2017 Martha Beaty Schwartz was released from these earthly bonds and reunited with her husband John Carroll, her mother Lucille, father David Augustus, and a host of aunts, uncles, and in-laws as they welcomed her home.

Martha was born on June 30th, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas where she met her husband John Carroll. They were married on November 7th, 1947, and following his 33 year career in the USAF, they retired to Harlingen, Texas. There they planted their roots and immersed themselves into this wonderful South Texas community. As a faithful member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Martha distinguished herself as a member of The Daughters of The King, becoming the first woman to serve on the St. Alban's Vestry, as well as, the first President of the Women of St. Alban's. Martha's faith-walk was strengthened by her receiving of the Holy Communion and helped to sustain her in the final days and weeks of her journey. An avid gardener, seamstress and needle-worker, Martha proved to be a multi-talented woman many years ahead of her time.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Lt. Col. John C. Schwartz.

Left behind to continue her legacy is her sister, Florence Noethlich and husband Jack, nieces and nephews Ginger Blair, Jeanette Shropshire, David Blair and wife Kim, Clelia Hendee, Cherry Daugbjerg and husband Ray, and Timothy Windrum.

A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Services will be officiated by The Reverends Judy Sessions and Nancy Springer. Private interment, officiated by Bishop David M. Reed, was held at Fort Sam Houston Veterans Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on February 22nd, 2017.

Memorials may be directed to St Alban's Episcopal Church, the Salvation Army of Harlingen, Texas, the Rio Grande Valley Shrine Club in La Feria, the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or All Saints Episcopal Church in San Benito.
