I went to Devon Gardens from 1966 - 1972 and have very fond memories of Mr.Barry.

Today, I was a pallbearer for my friend, John Reginald Barry, "Reg", the WWII veteran that I had befriended about five years ago, while doing my daily walk at the beach promenade near our home.
Reg was 8 days shy of his 93rd birthday when he passed away and his age is indicative of how few of these heroes are left amongst us. He was in the RCAF, attached to Bomber Command and it was my great privilege to have known him and helped him in his last few years. Having earned my own pilot's licence in my younger days, we seemed to have a special bond. He called me Squadron Leader and he was my Wing Commander, although he only achieved the rank of Flight Sergeant during his service. He told me on a few occasions that since all of his wartime buddies had gone on before him, that he thought of me as he did with them, in that he could talk with me about things in the way they did in their heyday.
He was a remarkable man that not only served his country in its time of need, but then went on to a successful career in education and improved the lives of countless numbers of children who passed through the doors of his schools, where he taught and served as principal for over 30 years. I'll miss my old buddy. Godspeed Reg.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I attended Devon Gardens with Mr. Barry as principle, remember how upset I was when he chose to retire. He was the best!

I knew him as Mr.Barry, my elementary school principal from1973 through grade 7. He was a wonderful man and easy to talk to, even as a child. I am 46 now with young adults of my own. I have compared their principals to my standard, John Barry. Rest in Peace

Uncle Reg was a wonderful addition to the Archambault family. Memories of the "plays" we produced in the Barry backyard are flooding back. My thoughts and prayers are with Auntie Therese, Margaret, Pat and Cathy and the rest of the clan. I am sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourselves at this time.

Dear Catherine,
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow, as you say goodbye to your dear dad. May God's light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace. Love, Dee
