Robert Nino Obituary

(1925-2011)

Robert V. Nino (Bob), 86, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at his home in Simi Valley, with his family by his side. Born in New York City to Italian immigrants Salvator and Euriclea Nino, Bob graduated from Garden City High, Long Island, N.Y. He graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and played for the Lehigh Football Team. He went on to take post-graduate courses at MIT and Texas A&M. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. During WWII he served on the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. O'Flaherty in the South Pacific.

His over 50-year career in the aerospace industry included work with Sperry, Hughes Aircraft, Litton and Northrup. His movement within the industry brought the family to Thousand Oaks in 1967. During his career he made significant contributions to numerous government programs supporting national security. Later in his career he was recognized by Northrop Grumman for his contributions resulting in the first flight of the USAF B-2 Spirit (Stealth Bomber).

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth; sister, Evelyn Schultz; daughters, Vickie Harvey and Lyn Fleming; sons, Robert Nino and John Nino; granddaughters, Brittany Fleming and Micaela Nino; grandson, Danill; daughters-in-law, Debbie Nino and Oxana Nino; and son-in-law, David Harvey.

The family is thankful for the excellent care he received at the end of his life.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home, 2636 Sycamore Dr., Simi Valley; funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at St. Paschal Baylon Church, 155 E. Janss Rd., Thousand Oaks, followed by a graveside service and Naval Military recognition at the Assumption Cemetery, 1380 Fitzgerald Rd., Simi Valley.

From knowing his son John (my sister Debbie's husband), it's clear to me that Bob is VERY special. I hope his loved ones find comfort in their memories and in the knowledge that Bob was so loved and highly regarded.
