Mr. William Henry Chandler, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Ventura on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at 10:25 a.m., with his wife (Terry) by his side.
William was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Mayfield, Ky. He was the youngest of five children with four sisters, Lillybelle, Martha, Henrietta, Mary John. As a young boy William served as an alter boy at Saint Joseph's Church in Mayfield, Ky. He was a 1950 graduate from Central High School in Akron, Ohio, he then attended Kent State University.
In January 1951 he joined the United States Navy and performed as a sonar man. While in the Navy he met and married Terry (Akizuki) in Yokohama, Japan on Dec. 20,1954. He then was honorably discharged First Class Petty Officer December 1956. In April 1961 he began his Civil Service career at Edwards Air Force Base as an electronics technician, and transferred to the Pacific Missile Range, Point Mugu working in the areas of Electronic Warfare from April 1969 to June 1973 as well as Missile Testing and Telemetry Collection when he then retired in March 1980. He loved to travel and was an avid photographer. William was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Terry Chandler of Ventura; son, William L. Chandler of Simi Valley; daughter, Denise (Robert) Beltran of Ventura; adopted daughter, Chandler Wiland; surviving sisters, Mary John Kimble of Ohio, and Henrietta Grey of Florida; 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, 1075 East Daily Drive, Camarillo, CA 93010, phone 482-1166, Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at 3 p.m.
