On Nov. 12, 2010 the Good Lord added a new member to his team of Angels. Joe Solis, age 81, of Oxnard passed away at his home surrounded by family members after a brief illness.
Joe was born on Jan. 15, 1929 to Jesus and Maria Solis, who preceded him in death, along with his brother Jesus. Romeo, as he was known as a young man, attended local schools, playing baseball for OHS-Class of '48, and Ventura Jr. College. He then went on to coach Little League at Northside and Sunset Little League for 20 years. Dad was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Alaska. After returning home he went on to work for the Southern California Edison as a mapper and his skills at this work were second to none.
After more than 30 years, he was able to retire at the young age of 56. After this he enjoyed traveling to places such as Las Vegas, Texas, Hawaii and other destinations. While at home he enjoyed sharing his wealth and knowledge with his loved ones. A very religious man, he made many pilgrimages to Mexico in fulfillment of promises made. He was a parishioner of Santa Clara Church for over 50 years. All our lives will be a little sadder because of his loss, but knowing what a good man he was, we take great pleasure in knowing he is now roaming the outfield on the only team he ever wanted to be a part of, The "Angels" of Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lupe; his brother, David Nunez; children, Romeo, Arleene, and Darleene Solis; along with his grandchildren, Natasha, Romeo (Vanessa), Dolly Solis, Randall and Katie Duke; numerous great-grandchildren; and god daughter, Patricia Duke.
A special thanks to hospice, Dr. Brand's nurse Rosa, our neighbors Tim Chacon and Stan Espinoza.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel in Oxnard. For maps and directions to all ceremony locations and to sign the family's online guestbook, please visit www.mysantapaulafuneralhome.com.

I was sorry to read that an old friend of mine had passed away. I met Joe while coaching at Northside Little League in the early 70's. Joe became a good friend of mine and was alway at my games in case I needed help. I will alway have fond memories of Joe as he was one of a kind. He was also loved and respected by all the players and coaches at Northside and will never be forgotten. My thoughs and prayers are with all of his family members during this most difficult time.

Mr. Solis was my baseball coach for the Northside Rangers (1976-78). We had three very sucessful years and he coached several good players. I learned the interworkings of the game from him. He was very patient with the less talented players. My prayers are with you.

Joe or "Nino" as I called you. My heart was saddened when I found out that the Lord took you. I will miss you, but I will never ever forget you. I will see you again. Romeo, Arleene and Darleene, thank you for sharing your Dad with my family and I. May time ease the sadness and his memories bring you happiness. Your Dad was or still is a great man that showed me his incredible faith. He always spoke his mind and I could always get advice from him. Nina We all Love You and We will always be there for you and the family. Love Brian
