My beloved wife and loving mother to our son, was called by her Lord to join him in paradise on September 28, 2010, following a short illness. She will be missed dearly but we are very happy she is enjoying her eternal reward now. We look forward to the day we can be with her together again with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colleen was born in Lompoc, California on October 24, 1949. She grew up in Santa Maria and graduated form Santa Maria High School in 1967. Following in her mother's footsteps, she joined GTE as an operator and 39 years later retired from Verizon as a special circuit tester.
I met Colleen on the job at GTE and we were married on December 29, 1984. We were blessed with a beautiful son on April 10, 1988. Colleen loved to hike in our local Santa Monica Mountains. She also enjoyed our many family trips to Hawaii and the Caribbean. She enjoyed making new friends of any new neighbors that moved into our neighborhood. She loved having long conversations and truly cared for the welfare of other people.
Colleen leaves behind her husband Jay , of 25 years and her son Aaron, her sister Lavonne (husband Rick) of Oxnard and her brother Gaelord (wife Linda) of Nipomo and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held for her at Saint Julie Billiart Church in Newbury Park on Friday, October 8 at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that any donations be made to Catholic Charities.

3/7/2012 Jay, just finding out about Colleen. Colleen and I worked on the frame in Thousand Oaks and we had a wonderful friendship. I remember when she first brought you to the switch room and I told her-he is so good for you. I am so sorry to hear about Colleen. There is a memorial going around with former GTE employees with Colleen's picture. I would like to send to you so if you would like me to send me a email to [email protected].
God bless you and your son~Michelle Henson Germyn

My condolences to your family. I met Colleen when we both worked in operator services. I have very fond memories of those days and especially with Colleen's mother. I am also glad that I was able to see and spend some time in March chatting with Colleen at the BRPC picnic. She of course remembered me right away and we reminisced about those days when we were all so young. She was such a kind and caring person and I know how much she loved her family. May all the memories keep her spirit alive and provide you comfort in the difficult days ahead.

Jay, I know you have nothing but great memories about you and Coleen, and that is a treasure in itself. We never know how long we have, and luckily, you and Coleen made the best of your time with her. The traveling you did, to include Aaron with all of this, was nice to share. Pam and I have reflected upon ALL those moments we all shared back when we were so much younger and life seemed so simple and fun. This happened so suddenly, you really don't have time to think about it until now, and we just want to let you know our deepest heart felt condolences go out to you and Aaron and anything you need or if you just need to talk, we are there for you!
