On Sept. 7, 2010, Edward Lee Sims, of Westlake Village, lost his battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 17, 1939 in Traverse City, Mich., to Blanche and John Sims, who both preceded him in death. Ed moved to California in 1956 and was in the Army Reserve as a Staff Sergeant until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. He opened Golden State Alarms, Inc. in 1971 and was still working full time in his business when he passed away.
On a bright sunny California day, friends of Ed Sims gathered to share stories about a quiet and gentle guy who brought a lot of happiness to a great many people. Dave Rees described his friend and golfing partner Ed in this way, "A wonderful man, gentle, kind; a perfect husband, father and grandfather, caring and loving. In business, in meetings, surrounded by his peers, Ed always tried to make a difference in small ways and he was good at it. His integrity and honesty and the value of his word meant everything to him."
He leaves his wife, Arlene; stepsons, Gregory and Jeffrey Goodrich (Julie); granddaughters, Kayla and Natalie Goodrich; his daughter, Deborah Carroll; granddaughters, Shara Davis and Heather Carroll. He was blessed with a blended family, stepson, Marc Cantrell (Lisa); granddaughters, Nicole and Emily Cantrell; and grandson, Evan Cantrell, who loved him. Ed is also survived by his only sister, Dixie Applet (Larry).
Ed Sims was recognized, loved and admired by hundreds of people whom he met and worked with over his years. It's very hard to say good bye.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Aabbey Memorial, Funeral Directors, A Heritage Life Tribute Center, Thousand Oaks, 487-4200.
