Helen Husted-Gorman Obituary

1931-2010

Sunday, Nov. 6, 2010 brought the passing of Helen Naomi Husted-Gorman. With her husband and children by her side, Helen was finally able to take her next steps on her journey with Christ after a long battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 26, 1931 to Ed and Nell Justice in Harrisburg, Ill., Helen was one of six children. In 1943, Helen's family moved to south Los Angeles where her father worked in a shipyard. Helen attended John Adams Middle School and later Emanuel Hearts High School. Her first employment was with Occidental Life Insurance as a Record Acquisition. At age 20, she took a job at a Title company as a secretary. It was here that she met "Scotty" Husted. In 1957 they were married and blessed with seven children.

After Scotty's passing, Helen was once again blessed with love when she met and married Frank Gorman in 1997. They were married at Padre Sierra Catholic Church. The newly weds enjoyed numerous adventures across the country and Canada in their RV.

At home, Helen's passion was her cooking and she loved to share that with her family. She will always be remembered for the Christmas dinners she hosted and the famous chocolate cake she baked for each of her children's and grandchildren's birthdays. Many a night she would sit back and teach her daughters and granddaughters how to cook the recipes we all loved. She was strong, loving, willful, outspoken and supportive, and she will be dearly missed.

Helen is survived by her "wonderful, loving husband," Frank Gorman; daughters, Cynthia Husted, "Sam" Husted-Hayward, and Nancy Ghio and her husband Mario Ghio; sons, Scott Husted and wife Tamara, and John Husted and wife Monica; 18 grandchildren: Jubilee, Kimberly, Winfield, Catherine, Heather, Ian, Dominic, Sean, Anthony, Justin, John Michael, Kristina, Mary, Gina, Cecilia, Isabella, Brock, and Joseph; and three great-grandchildren: Mollie, Collin and Sophie.

Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Husted (1976), and son, Brock "Gus" Husted (2009), and grandchild, Grant (2009).

Helen was a devout Catholic. A viewing will be held from 5-9 p.m. Friday night with a full Rosary from 7-8 p.m. at Rose Mortuary in Simi Valley. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the burial and reception immediately to follow. Friends and family are welcome to all services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fireman's Relief Association, Widows, Orphans & Disabled Fireman's Fund who was such a blessing to Helen as she fought her battle with cancer. For information on making a donation, please contact James Dolan at 323-259-5205.
