Marie Lerner died Nov. 7, 2010 at home with family.
She was born Aug. 14, 1926 in San Francisco and was one of nine children of the Cresci family. After a whirlwind courtship in 1952, she married the love of her life, Robert Lerner, in San Francisco. Soon after they married they traveled to Lafayette, Ind., where Robert continued his education.
While in Indiana they had the first of their three children, Rachael. In 1953 they moved with their newborn daughter to Oxnard. Three years later in 1956 their son Thomas was born. In 1960 they moved to Ojai and a year later they welcomed their daughter Julie. In 1964 they moved to their current home in Ventura.
Marie was devoted to her family and showed her love by making them gourmet meals. She enjoyed reading and trying new recipes then sharing and discussing them. She embraced her husband's history and culture with enthusiasm by learning to make all his favorite dishes.
In addition to cooking, she was an avid reader and looked forward to receiving issues of the New Yorker and Vanity Fair. She was very cosmopolitan, relishing her trips back to San Francisco, Hawaii and to New York, and even Rome where she could use the Italian she grew up speaking with her family. Later in life, she looked forward to regular walks along the Ventura Promenade with her husband. She loved the ocean. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren the simple appreciation of flowers, plants, oc sunsets over the ocean and wonderful family meals. Marie loved her husband's artwork and often was an inspiration for his drawings and paintings.
Anyone that knew her could definitely say that she had a gift for conversation, making every person she spoke with feel special.
Marie is survived by her husband, Robert; their children, and grandchildren, John, Rachael, Leah and Loren Libolt of Oceanside; Thomas, Maureen, Andrew, Joseph, and Marion Lerner of Virginia; Julie, O.D, Dustin, and Sandy of New Mexico; and her brother, Dominic, and sisters, Rose, Lena , and Anna Marie.
The sunset memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Poinsettia Pavilion located at 3451 Foothill Road in Ventura.

Halloween always reminds me of Marie. She was taking her daughter, Julie, "trick or treating". As I opened the door my costume frightened both of them. She was such a wonderful neighbor!!!
