Richard Johnston Obituary

Richard Edward Johnston, 59 of Thousand Oaks, passed away on October 29, 2010 at Los Angeles VA Hospital after an extended illness.

Richard (Rick) was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 30, 1950. He moved to California in 1956 with his parents and siblings and settled in Orange County. In 1973 after serving in the U.S. Army over in Korea and Hawaii, Rick settled in Ventura County.

Rick was a gifted artist; he loved to draw. He had worked for the city of Thousand Oaks for 25 years with most of those years designing and making road and city event signs before retiring in 2006. Rick enjoyed spending his time camping at the beach and in the desert with friends.

He is survived by his mother, La Verne Johnston Merriken; brother, Steve Johnston, wife Karen; brother, John Johnston, wife Celeste; and sister, Carolyn J. Christian, husband Drew. Nieces: Jennifer Christian, Brooke Johnston, and Danielle Johnston; Nephews: Allen Osborne III, Reece Johnston, Drew Christian Jr., and Garrett Johnston. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Johnston and sister, Christine J. Osborne.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Los Robles Regional Hospital and VA hospital for watching over Rick while in their care. Services will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary, Lindero Canyon Rd. on November 12 at 11:00 am.
