Sally Ferguson Obituary

April 30, 1940-Sept. 27, 2010

Sally was born in Albuquerque, N.M., on April 30, 1940. She moved to California in the early 1970s to attend CSU Fresno and received her degree in micro-biology and then went on to receive her certification as a clinical laboratory scientist through the State of California.

Sally began her medical career at Valley Children's Hospital in Fresno as a lab tech and eventually became the Lab Dept. Supervisor. In 1983 she relocated to the LA area and worked at the Encino Hospital as a lab tech until she received an offer at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital as a Lab Supervisor and was eventually promoted to the Director of Out Patient Services.

Due to medical reasons, Sally was forced to retire in 2009 from Quest Diagnostics in Woodland Hills, where she was the supervisor of the Chemistry Department. After retirement and in spite of her battle with cancer, she continued to work part-time as a technical consultant for PCM Consultants performing medical surveys for physician office laboratories.

Sally enjoyed trips in her motor home and camping with friends and family. She was an LA Sparks basketball team enthusiast and enjoyed attending the games with friends. She was also a devoted animal lover. Her pets were always treated like family.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Nay, and her Life Partner, Betty Stearns in 2008.

She is survived by many who will miss her: stepdaughter, Stacy Nieto-Hutson and her husband John; stepson, Brad Stearns; grandsons, Robert Nieto and his wife Shelby and Clayton White; granddaughters, Tiffany White and Ashley Nieto; and great-granddaughters, Tatum and Briley Mangioni. In addition to her immediate family, Sally is also survived by many loving and devoted friends who she considered her extended family.

A celebration of Sally's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home Chapel.

My prayers and sympathies go out to Sally's family and friends at this time. I will remember Sally most from attending Sparks games for many seasons and I know that she will be there in spirit, along with her partner, Betty, to help us cheer on the team next season. Sally was a very sweet and kind person and we will all miss her, but I am happy that she no longer suffers from her illness, that she is now perfect again and that she is again joined with her partner, Betty. They were a lovely couple and remain a lovely couple once again.

My thoughts & sympathies go out to Sally's family, her friends in our community and friends & co-workers. I will remember Sally as a loving & giving person but most of all for her courage. Sally was always quietly accepting of all the distractions & impediments thrown at her in life. She adjusted to every distraction & impediment with courage and the determination to live her life to its fullest despite them. Sally's courage & determination will stay with me in my heart. I know Sally & Betty are together again-painfree & enjoying each other, all the while keeping an eye on all of us. I will miss them both-Jean.

Sally will be missed more than words can express. She has been a special force in my life for 33 years. Her love was always unconditional. She taught me many things over the years. Her strength, endurance, and determination are just a few of the attributes I most admired about her. I would like to think I am a better person for having known her and having her influence my life in so many ways. She was truely an inspiration to me and I will miss her always.
