Thomas Haley Obituary

Thomas John Haley Thomas John Haley passed away peacefully after a long journey with Alzheimer's on August 1, 2012- just shy of his 80th birthday. Thomas was the only child born to Margaret and "Jack" Haley on August 4, 1932 in Butte, Montana. He was raised in West Virginia but spent his adulthood in California. Thomas married Glenna (Heald) on August 7th, 1965. They moved to Tulare in 1968 where they raised 3 children. Many people grew to know and love Tom through his volunteer work. He received numerous awards for his community and church involvement over the years which included: Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts as troop leader, Scout Master and BSA board member; Little League Baseball as active parent, coach and President of Babe Ruth; and Knights of Columbus as Grand Knight of two councils and Faithful Navigator. Tom also loved his work as lector and Eucharistic minister of the sick at St Rita's Catholic Church. Before his illness, Tom enjoyed camping, bike riding, going to lunch and watching FOX news! Tom loved history and would talk at great length to anyone who would listen. Thomas is survived by his wife, Glenna, of nearly 47 years; his daughter, Kathy (Doug); son, John (Michelle); son, Brian (Trudy) and 6 loved grandchildren. The family would also like to include and thank Tom's caregivers- Frank, Pat and Frankie Pimentel for their love and support. Tom was a great man, husband and father. His smile, gentleness and compassionate spirit will be missed. Viewing will be held at Sterling and Smith Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 6th from 4-8 pm with the rosary being said at 6:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at St. Rita's Catholic Church at 10:00 am with internment following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boy Scouts Sequoia Council 230 NW 3rd St. Visalia, CA 93277 or Knights of Columbus #9648 c/o 954 South "O" Street, Tulare, CA 93274.

Dear Glenna, Kathy, John, Brian and families:

I was so saddened to hear of your loss. The world has lost a good man and we are all a bit poorer for it. But heaven has gained a strong soldier for the kingdom of God and those of us left here on earth.

I remember his soft-spoken kindness and gentleness and the great times we had at all the Knights of Columbus and church functions. Many wonderful, warm memories flood my mind and heart.

May you find consolation in the fact that he is already in heaven praying for and keeping guard over all of you, day and night; and that out of all the people in the world, you were the ones he loved most of all and chose to spend his life with.

Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you now more than ever.
