Earl Shinder Obituary

Earl Wade Shinder, esq., 60, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 14, 2010.
He was born in Los Angeles, California on March 22, 1950 to John and Anne Lennox Shinder. He married Patricia Ann Strickland on June 24, 1972, in Ontario, California. Surviving him, are his wife Pat, and their two children; Dr. Teresa Shinder of Honolulu, Hawaii and Todd Shinder of Apple Valley, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sally Shinder.
Earl graduated from Bell High School, Bell California in 1968 and then obtained a B.S. in mathematics from Cal Poly Pomona in 1972. He then completed his Jurist Doctorate from Whittier College of Law, Hancock Park, California, in 1982. While attending law school, he worked for E.A. Key Company, Los Angeles, California.
Earl was an attorney with Thompson and Thompson Law Firm, Victorville, California, from 1984 to 2000. He opened his own law office, The Law Office of Earl Wade Shinder, from 2001 to 2003. In 2004, he began working with the County of San Bernardino as a deputy public defender.
Earl loved baseball. He was a coach in the Apple Valley Little League for many years and in 1994, he began playing with the High Desert Senior Men's Baseball League. He was president of the league at different times and was an active member of this league until last year. As many know, he worked continuously on maintaining the Apple Valley High School Varsity Baseball field. He spent endless, joyful hours at the field. He often commented, "it's so peaceful being there". All of the compliments and appreciation, made him so proud. "Pop" was touched that it was the "best kept" field of all the baseball fields in the league. He was also very eager to help with softball, junior varsity baseball, mock trial, and the Victor Valley Community College.
In recent years, he greatly enjoyed preparing Thanksgiving dinner for his colleagues. He would prepare for weeks ahead of time. He was an amazing cook and it brought him much pleasure. Earl was extremely talented at all he did from baseball to woodworking or welding. He inspired many and always strived to do his best. He was a firm believer in continuing education.

Earl was a kind and attentive Public Defender that seemed to have equal concerns, shared knowledge, and abilities to represent a Client's hardship cases and situations and viewed them just as important in his most recent years in the PD's office in the Courthouse in Victorville as he did with his Practice's paying Clients cases and situations from his earlier years in a Private Practice office. I Feel deep sorrow and grief, may he rest in peace and may God Bless him and his surviving family members and friends.

To a beloved friend and father figure, thanks for all of great laughs and life long lessons you taught me. And most of all thank you for showing such interest in my son and giving him the lessons with baseball to make him a better ball player. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure to meet Earl several years ago. I say Earl because when I addressed him respectfully by his last name, he said to call him Earl. He couldn't assist me with the issue I had, but he made a call on my behalf to someone that could. I'll never forget the extra steps he would take to help all he could. I was saddened greatly at his passing. Earl, we all will miss you. My heartfelt condolences to your family. His memory will live on through the lives he has touch. Never forget you Earl. Rest in Peace friend.

I played college and semi-pro baseball. I have played baseball for over 25 years. Earl Shinder was the man that finally got through to me and taught me how to hit a baseball really hard. Since his little discussion with me I have hit over .450 every year.
Earl, I can't thank you enough! I will pass on your wisdom and make sure people know who taught me how to hit!!

Earl was a good man in many ways as professed by many. I witnessed Earl help out several desperate and confused ball players in need of advise and never once did he ask for money in return. We played ball against each other since 1995 and it will never be the same with him gone. Rest in Peace my friend.

Earl was the first attorney I met when I moved to High Desert almost 18 years ago. What a brilliant law mind. More recently we were close due to his untiring support to the Apple Valley Baseball program. Earl could never be replaced. A tremendous man, baseball mind and giving heart. My prayers are with Earl's family, thank you for sharing him with me, he will be missed.

I had the utmost respect for Earl Shinder. Whenever we spoke it felt like I was talking to my own father. Earl had the special ability to coach, teach, and mentor anybody in a way that would be reserved for only the finest quality of people. I have always felt close to the Shinder Family and regret not being close to them during this time of mourning. My deepest condolences go out to his family and close friends.

Earl, what a great man. You have left such an awesome impression on so many of these young men at AVHS. We so greatly appreciate all the time spent with our program and my own sons on that baseball field you took so much pride in. You will be greatly missed around the field from day to day, and hearing the boys say " look what Earl did yesterday" with all the hard work you put in. You will be in our hearts forever.

I moved away from Southern California many years ago, but I remember vividly the time I spent working at Thompson & Thompson with Earl Shinder as my boss. He was a bit intimidating to work with initially, but I soon learned that beneath that sometimes gruff exterior, was a a very kind man and a brilliant attorney. I learned a lot about the law from Earl.....but I also learned a lot about honor and Integrity.
Thank you Earl for enhancing my life.

Earl was a genuine person that I entrusted as my attorney, he worked with the best (Sherry). In addition, I knew Earl outside the attorney arena as he was always at the fields when my son was playing sports and always had encouraging words for the youth of Apple Valley and the greater Victorvalley. My thoughts and prayers go out to Earls family and friends as this is a loss to the community and your homes. Sincerely, Angelicia Henderson
