Gloria:
I will always remember Ike as one of the most professional people I ever had the privilege of working for in USAAA. He commanded immediate attention from his audience in the way he presented himself and his material during conferences and meetings. He was also one who would enjoy a good joke and he was fun to be around after working hours also. We (the former Northeast District/Region people who worked for and with him) will miss him dearly. He was one of the best.

Gloria,
Ike was a mentor to me during my early years with the agency. He was ahead of his time as a manager who always offered positive support, kind words and good advice. Some of my best memories with the Agency has Ike at center stage. I can remember a night back in 1983 at your townhouse when Joe Kahriger, Benny Piccolo and I had a few too many. You were reading palms and telling fortunes, while we were telling stories. That night Ike broke your screen door. Ike lived his life to the fullest every day and he will live on in our memories. You have my deepest sympathy. (PS: You are accurate in your palm readings.)

Ike was a great leader and a great guy to work for. As the first Regional Auditor General of the Northeast Region, he helped make NER the backbone of AAA.

One of the most difficult things in life is the passing on of dear friends, outstanding colleagues, and true professionals. Ike Barbre was one of those rare people who embodied all three qualities. First becoming acquainted with Ike in the 1960's in Europe, and later in the Northeast District of Army Audit Agency, our association continued through the 1970s and into recent years. Ike was always the epitomy of a gentleman. He was a mentor to many younger auditors, a great majority of whom advanced to high positions of authority and responsibility. He often invited them to his home where his wife Gloria made everyone feel very welcome. He gave freely of his time to others and to the organization in his quest to make things better. Especially noteworthy of Ike was his keen intelligence and wonderful sense of humor. He was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. Gloria you are in our prayers.

Mr. Barbre always a gentleman. . . . that is how I think of him. It was in the late 60's and I was right out of high school working as a clerk typist for USAAA. . . . things were changing in the world then, but I'll always remember how Mr. Barbre took off his hat in the elevator. A true sign of a true gentleman. You are in my prayers.

It seems like yesterday when I first met Ike but it was almost 40 years ago in New York City. For most of my career, I worked under Ike in the Northeastern Region.Ike was a true professional. He was always well dressed and well groomed, and handled himself in a calm/cool manner no matter what the situation was.
Above all, Ike was extremely loyal to the Army Audit Agency. He thought the Agency did outstanding work and would do whatever he could to foster that image. He wanted the best for the Agency and the people in it.
Ike was also well liked by all that worked with him. There are many stories that could be told of Ike's involvement with Agency personnel and others both during and after working hours. He will be missed.
I am truly sorry to see Ike go and will miss him at the next Tom Sakai luncheon. If there is anything that I can do, please do not hesitate to call.
