NANCY GOFUS Obituary
Nancy Burgess Gofus (Age 63)
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 after a short battle with an aggressive cancer. Born on November 24, 1953 in Waycross, GA, she was the daughter of J.J. (Jack) and Mary Mercer Burgess.Nancy was an executive with a number of companies within the telecommunications and internet domain industries for over 35 years. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Herndon, VA and was also deeply involved with a number of non-profit organizations. A proud graduate of the College of William and Mary, Class of 1975, she was the outgoing Chair of the College of William and Mary Foundation Board. She had previously served as chair of the Volunteers of America National Board and was currently serving on the board of the Volunteers of America - Chesapeake. She is survived by her husband, Joe, her children, J. Matthew Gofus (Kate) and Kathryn Scholfield (Tyler) and two grandchildren, Margaret and Jack Gofus. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Mercer Burgess and her brother, J. Michael Burgess.The family will receive friends on Sunday. October 22, 5 to 7 p.m. at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon. A funeral service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Monday, October 23, 11 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Herndon. Nancy came to MCI in 2003, during the hard time for the business. I was in Human Resources in the Atlanta facility. Nancy was highly regarded and exceptionally respected throughout the time that she worked for the company. Everyone that talked about her, expressed what a smart,warm, value added executive to the company she was, including me. I was so very sorry to recently passed away. Prayers and condolences are sent to her her husband, children and family during this hard time.

I remember Nancy in homeroom at Norview H.S. She was always friendly and very sweet. I am sorry to hear of her passing. I know in her lune of work she touched many people in so many ways. Prayers for the family and friends.
