Steve Brower passed away at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia on Saturday, December 31, 2011 after a courageous 18-month battle with leukemia.He was 58 years old and throughout his illness maintained the most positive spirit. Steve was born in Rhinebeck, New York, the youngest son of the late Frederick John and Bessie Mills Brower. Steve graduated from Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. He received his BS at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After graduation, Steve began his IT career at the US Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. Over the next 35 years, he held project management positions with Synergy, DB/DC, Inc., The Washington Post, and a.i. solutions. Steve also enjoyed playing a variety of sports. He was an avid golfer and played with the same foursome for over 25 years. He loved annual trips to the Outer Banks, the theater and local restaurants, and entertaining at home. Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Polly C. Brower; brother, John Frederick Brower (Linda); sister, Caroline B. Calhoun; and brother, Van Jeffrey Brower (Terry Ann). He will be missed by his family as well as the many friends, co-workers and acquaintances whose lives he touched. A private celebration of Steve's life was held earlier in January.
