DAVID COLCOMBE Obituary

DAVID J. COLCOMBE
David J. Colcombe of Manassas, Virginia died June 28, 2014 in his home with his beloved wife, Lydia Park Colcombe, in his arms and his children at his side. David was born into a Marine Corps family stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 15, 1961. He was the second of five children born to David D. and Sharon Colcombe. The family moved throughout the country and settled in Dumfries, Virginia. David attended Gar-Field High School (Class of 1979), played varsity basketball and grew to a sizable 6'5". While at Northern Virginia Community College, David began an internship that led to a career in systems technology and database management. David put himself through college and graduated from American University in 1985. In January 1985, while still attending school, he met his wife of 28 years, Lydia. They were married the following year. They are the parents to David Luke, Shannon Elizabeth, and Clint Joseph; and grandparents through young David's wife, Kristyn, to David James, 2 ½, and Jaxon Joseph born one week before the death of this grandfather. All of them live in Manassas, Virginia. Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, David is survived by his four siblings, Lori, Kenny Linda, Steven "Bo", as well as a large extended family; his Leidos work family and his dear friends. David faced is cancer diagnosis with humor and without complaint; he lived the last 2 years to their fullest and refused to surrender to his illness. In lieu of flowers, David asks anyone reading this obituary to schedule a colonoscopy; as his routine screening came too late for him. A Memorial Service is scheduled for July 12 at All Saints Anglican Church, 14851 Gideon Drive, Woodbridge, Virginia 22192 at 3:30 p.m. A reception to celebrate his life will be held following the service.

I reach for your hand a hundred times a day. I run to tell you something funny and you are not there. I listen for your sweet voice, your happy laughter. I can't wait to see you in Heaven. This world is so dark and sad without you. I miss your smile and your beautiful blue eyes. I know you fought to stay with us, but when you left, you took my heart. I am so lost without you. You will always be my love, and my best friend. I love you forever & a day. Your wife, Lydia
