Monty was a quiet funny man. He had a few things that needed to be said, he said them and that was it. He was accomplished in many areas including the law, caligraphy, wines and good conversation. He will be greatly missed by his friends.

I marvel at the remarkable man that was my father, the last authentic gentleman known to me, who represented an admirable blend of Eastern and Western culture and was a citizen of the world.
His is a uniquely American story, about a handsome, earnest hard-working lawyer and brilliant jurist who went from being a kid in 1920s pre-war Korea to helping the Americans save his country, then coming to the US to become a scholar in some of our best universities, meeting and marrying a sparkling Quaker girl and pioneering cancer researcher, with whom he shared a wonderful love story for almost 60 years, living a cosmopolitan life in Washington, DC, and reaching the pinnacle of anti-trust law as Chief Judge of the FTC. He was noted by his fellow judges for quoting from classic literature and philosophers in his legal opinions, for conducting himself in a dignified and refined manner, and by all who knew him for being a true gentleman, embodying the highest callings of individual personal development and lifelong service to society. He gave us all unconditional love as a father, husband, uncle and friend. I am really going to miss you dad. Love, Chris

No son could be prouder of the greatest father. He lived a spectacular life of honor, civility, intellect, humor and grace. I miss him more than words could ever convey.

Best heard in his own voice:
Words from MKH at his 80th Birthday celebration
[Greetings and acknowledgements]
I have not had such an attentive, captive audience since I left the bench some 12 years ago. I'm tempted to take advantage of this opportunity -- but I won't. When I retired, I told some of you here today that I intended to embark on a life the ancient Greeks called SKOLA:
I would read for enjoyment, learn a new trick or two, see the world and generally indulge in Eat and Play and old and honorable Korean pursuit for superannuated gentlemen. Well, I've done exactly that. Yes, I've had a couple of close calls, but managed to beat the statistical odds, and here I am, eighty years old. An octogenarian! An old man, with one foot in the grave.
I can't believe I'm eighty. I only hope that when the time comes for me, I may be allowed to make my exit with a modicum of dignity, grace and certain dispatch.
Friends tell me I don't show my age. Perhaps it is my dark complexion. Anyway, let me tell you I feel every year of it. As a matter of fact, I've had to live with an increasing number of restrictions. Ariel tells me I need a hearing aid. I no longer drive after dark. And now I live with a low fat, low salt, low everything regime. And I've had to give up a few things. I no longer climb lofty peaks, which I used to love. Nor do I chase fast balls on the court, nor chase fair women, fast or otherwise, nor light up a good cigar which I have been hoarding for years.
Speaking of giving up pleasures, it was Sophocles who said in Antigone, that a man who has forfeited life's pleasures is not to be counted as living, for without joy and gladness in his heart, he is but a breathing corpse no matter how wealthy or powerful he may be.
And Francis Bacon said in his essays that longevity can be a tedium. But I'm not there yet. A life with Ariel, my wife of some 45 years, means that life is never dull. As for me, as long as I can keep up with Ariel, as long as I can enjoy the company of good friends like you, read a few good books and listen to Mozart and Beethoven, and let's not forget our own divine Barbara, and smell the flowers along the way, and above all, as long as I can marvel at the shining faces of my grandchildren and watch them grow, there will always be joy and gladness in my heart and I'll be profoundly grateful to be alive. After all, as someone said, with all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is a beautiful world.
So my dear ones, today let's celebrate life! Here's to life!?
I really miss you, Dad.
Love, Chris
