I had wondered what happened to Dr. George McAleer. I left ICAF in 2001 where I had the honor of teaching with George in the Leadership Department from 1996 to 2001. We were first meeting in the Coast Guard HQs since the ICAF building was in renovation. What an absolute honor it was to teach with George. He also lead the monthly prayer breakfast at ICAF and instrumental in many students advancing their religious/Christian beliefs. Sorry for it taking so long to find his obituary and make comments about a great man, friend and fellow believer. Harold Tucker

I will be keeping cousin George and the entire McAleer family in my thoughts tomorrow as he is laid to rest with full military honors. As the Hillsdale NJ article captioned with picture of George in his decorated uniform "Local Hero receives Medal for Bravery" ... that article was kept by my Mom & Dad and family in VA and every time I wondered how George was doing that article and photo was always so vivid. George and his character never shared those details, but I do know it was a heroic evacuation and saved many lives. I remember George visiting us when he worked at Grove Crane in PA and later made a visit from Hagerstown MD at my Dad's request to share his marketing expertise with our family Garden Center in Carlisle PA. I remember him being intelligent, up-beat, with a great sense of humor and a smile that went with it.
All I ever heard over the years was George never complained about his crippling disease, he just seemed to get tougher as the years wore on him.
His great spirit and drive simply overshadowed that .... that's some of my memories of George and someone our entire family always admired.

Joanne: Like Bill Mayall I served with George at ICAF and like everybody else on the faculty and staff loved George. He was the epitome of a gentleman with a huge heart and great wisdom. We both were in the C-130 Wings during the Vietnam War and use to swap stories endlessly.George made a difference.

Dear Joanne, George, Chris & Pat, Your loss is heavens gain! I pray you find comfort in knowing just how many lives George touched. He was one of the best men I've ever known. I remember meeting him at a McDonalds one day to catch up and as I was telling him a personal story I looked up at him and saw that he had tears rolling down his cheeks. He had great empathy, great joy and was a wonderful mentor for Christ. Although he will be missed, those of us who knew him will carry a piece of him always in our hearts. May God's grace be upon you and may the peace of our Savior surround you during this most difficult time. Much love, Cousin Joan Snow Kofalt.

George was an inspiration for us on the team for the Men's 123 Cursillo Weekend. He was wonderful to work with. Sorry to hear of his passing.

I taught with George for a number of years at the Industrial College. He was a great mentor and colleague. Never met anyone with a more positive spirit. More importantly, was the example George set for all of us as a Christian. He was a leader in our weekly bible study sessions and the most inclusive person I have ever met. My condolences to the family. George made the world a better place. RIP, my friend.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of George. He was my rector on the 81st Mens Cursillo. He changed my understanding of Christ along with our table leader, Ed Haydash, and my fellow Five Magi. George was very special and now he sings for the Lord he taught us to love so much. Until we meet again, brother.

I've only known George a couple of years here at Greenspring, but oh, what a difference he has made on my own testimony for Christ.

Joanne and Family, keeping you in our prayers with the passing of my cousin George. I was at the end of the line of all cousins and did not get to see George often, however, I heard numerous people speak so highly of him for many years. I knew uncle George and aunt Jodie and all I can say is that your George seemed to embody all the best of his parents. I can't think of a better compliment. The best personality trait I will remember him by is his absolute positive attitude, which I remember from they few times we were together. He and his parents had great attitudes and warm smiles!
Love,

Joanne & family - I'm so sorry for your loss. George taught me so much about working within/around the limitations of MS.
