Dr. Everett Carter Lyon, Jr.   (Age 86)  
Passed away peacefully at his home in Manassas, VA, on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, from complications related to pneumonia. Affectionately known as "Ernie," he was born on August 31, 1930 in Newport News, VA to the late Everett Carter Lyon, Sr. and Catherine Blake Lyon. Dr. Lyon was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia's School of Pharmacy in 1953, and the School of Medicine in 1960. He began his practice of general medicine in Chesapeake, VA, before relocating to Gainesville, VA, where he practiced for 25 years. He retired from private practice and was employed by the Virginia Department of Health for 16 years. It was there that Dr. Lyon had the high honor of ensuring that the heroes of the Prince William County police and fire departments were in good health. Dr. Lyon attended the Church of Nazarene in Manassas, where he was a dedicated member of the men's quartet. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, and he enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and collecting antiques. Dr. Lyon leaves his wife of 36 years, Barbara Shelor Lyon; his sister, Shirley Annette Hartung (Leroy) of Portsmouth, VA; seven children, Debbie Hughes, Becky Ashby, Susan Carrico (John), Everett Carter Lyon, III. (Sarah), Meg Fulwiler (Wayne), Michael Lyon, Shirl Vandiver (Mark); four Step-children, Lisa Paul (Curtis), Dawn Sloane-Doerr (Rick), Tracy Sloane (Suzanne), Jay Sloane (Beth); four nephews; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation at Pierce Funeral Home, Manassas, VA, on Sunday, January 29, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Medical Missionaries, 9590 Surveyor Ct., Manassas, VA 20110.
