Edith Jacquot Obituary

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Edith B. Laffey Jacquot, 85, of Carthage, died at 3:19 p.m. Thursday (April 28, 2011) in her home

Edith was born May 5, 1925, in Xenia, Ohio, a daughter of John and Mary (Armentrout) Bath. On Feb. 24, 1944, she married John Laffey in Xenia, Ohio. In 1980, Edith was united in marriage to Paul Jacquot in Hamilton.

She graduated from Xenia Central High School where she received the Westinghouse Fellowship.

Edith had worked in the Westinghouse laboratory in Xenia and had also been a lab technician at the McClellan Hospital in Xenia. In Carthage she had worked at the Super Value Grocery Store, Farm Bureau, Cargill's, and especially enjoyed her time working as a bookkeeper for the Louis Martin Company.

Edith was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage. An active community member, Edith volunteered at the Carthage Elementary School, taught Bridge at Carl Sandburg College, was a member of several Bridge clubs in Carthage and was a founding member of the Blue Stocking Investment Club. She loved reading and was a lifelong learner. She was also an award winning piemaker, an avid golfer and loved playing Scrabble.

Edith is survived by nine children, David (Becky) Laffey of Pekin, Ann (Don) Gerber of Wheaton, Tim (Trish) Laffey of Carthage, Kent (Sharon) Laffey of Sheridan, Donna (Mike) Tracy of Carthage, Mary Holmes of Augusta, Ted Laffey of Auburn, Robin (Roger Wachtendorf) Laffey of Carthage, Tom (Barbara) Laffey of Carthage; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Semler of Xenia, Ohio; and a brother, Charlie Bath of Xenia, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Laffey; three brothers; and two sisters.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Church, Carthage.

VISITATION: 3-8 p.m. Monday in the Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, with family present 5-8 p.m. A wake service will be held after the visitation in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.

ARRANGEMENTS: Printy Funeral Home, Carthage.
