I didn't know we could still post here until I got an e-mail that someone had made an entry. And what a beautiful, heartfelt message it was! What a shame that no contact information was left. Speaking as a friend of the family, I know they would enjoy seeing any of those photos as we all still miss Jeff every day! If you ever want to share those pictures and/or your memories, I can put you in touch with the family...

I knew Jeff well. Only yesterday did I find out that he passed on which is a tragedy. He taught me how to do lighting and we had a lot of fun together. I'm heartbroken by this news as it's old to others but new to me. Jeff, you were my inspiration through parts of my life. I have so many awesome photos and memories of you. I miss you even more now that I know I'll never see you again. I spent so many hours googling your name hoping to find you again. I always hoped we would connect again someday. I love you Jeff/x!

I went to high school at PHS with "Brother Jeff". It's nice to see the comments others left are the same qualities that made him so special back then. The great outlook, the silly grin, and never an unkind word about anybody. In fact if he was going to make fun of someone it was usually at his own expense.
Anyone else remember the black and white slip-on Vans he wore to the Prom? Had them custom made, he was so stylin'!

I sent word out to some others from the class of '80.
Peace to you, Alex and Vernal.

Alex, Vern, Emma Lou and Campbell family. I have wanted to send my sympathy wishes to you for some time. Alex, we did get to talk some and I'm glad we did. I think about Jeff every day. I have poured over my scrapbook too many times to count now. All filled with so many memories. I kept everything he ever gave me. Every card, every silly note and flowers all dried and pressed and then the pictures. The pictures... they are hard. I miss him.. I will always miss him. His grin, his laugh, his honesty and the way he always made me feel safe. One of the last times we talked I was able to tell him what our time together meant to me. How greatful I was to have shared those years and times with him. I am a better person because of him. I truely believe that. He left an incredible footprint on my heart and I will forever and always be greatful for knowing him, loving him and being loved by him.

Always in my heart.

Jeff. I miss you man. During the time you were with my mom, you taught me to be the man I am today. Without your help and kindness to get me through my childhood I can't imagine I would be half the man I am now. I don't think I ever saw you with an enemy... You were cool with everybody. That alone taught me more than I can put in words. Thanks for always being there. I love you bro. RIP.

I met Jeff on the Shark Island crew when I was a mere thirteen years old. Jeff never treated me with anything but the utmost respect and I dare say he, along with the whole SI organization are partially, if not largely responsible for the person I am today. Plugz never had an unkind word to say about anyone (at least that I heard) and always had that infectious smile working its magic. I haven't seen him in years, but I'll miss him forever, because he was that quality kind of guy.

To Uncle Vern, Aunt Emma, Vern Jr, Alex, and our precious Drue. I"m lost for words on how I miss Jeff, not being able to even get there thou this terrible loss.We haven't seen each other in years. Life is too short, to let go without having family around. We all miss him deeply, and it's just not fair, how life leads us in diffrent directions. I just want to be there with you all, going through this terrible ordeal. He was my cousin, and I truly missed him all these years. He will be missed so much, but he will always be in our hearts and memories that we had growing up. He was a special person, and so layed back, always making jokes, and always smiling. We as your family will always have that special place in our memory books, to always look back on. Especially going to Mama's looking up all those pictures. We love you soo dearly Jeff, and will deeply miss you. But we are here in spirit and in heart. Uncle Vern and Family, please keep us posted, we are extremely devastated over this loss, and wish we were there. Please let Drue know that he is loved and we are praying for you all. Love to you all, Cindy Lou

A huge thank you to the entire Campbell family from the bottom of my heart for making sure that Jeff's funeral service and after celebration were a fitting tribute to the guy we all loved so much. The backstage pass laminates handed out at the service and having live music at the celebration afterwards were both brilliant and so appropriate! And the family was so gracious to his many friends who attended. And I want to thank each family member for sharing your memories so lovingly with me and allowing me to share mine with you. I feel especially blessed that I got to spend some time with Drue and share certain memories with him. He's a special young man, and I will miss seeing him work the shows with his proud dad during his summer vacations.

My Cherished Memories of Jeff “Ffej” Campbell:

I can hardly see through the tears that are welling in my eyes as I type this. David (Camera Dave) says that almost nothing shocks him, and yet I can see he is stunned by what has happened to someone he considers one of his best friends.

You were so welcoming from the first time David brought me to The Galaxy. I realize with a lump in my throat that some of the best times we have ever had were hanging out with you practically every weekend watching you work your “light show magic”.

I am so glad that I stayed behind to hang out with you when David and your buddies would go to the bar to get drinks or go outside to smoke. You were so much fun to be around in the 3 short years that I was lucky enough to know you! It was so interesting to hear you share your witty opinions about each band that played. And the words you made up to some of the more famous songs made people laugh so hard they nearly cried. I can hear you changing the words to the chorus right now to a certain favorite Guns ‘n Roses song…And if only I had a dollar for every time you said, “Make a hole” to clear a path to be able to run back and forth to do the job you made look like effortless fun but took so seriously…

You were always such a giver making sure that your friends got on your guest list and got to go hang out with you backstage. I had never been backstage before I met you, so I don’t think you ever knew exactly how much it meant that you made that happen for me.

You were such a proud parent when you told me about your son. And it was amazing to see him having fun helping out at the shows and hanging out with his cool dad during his summer vacations.

Ffej, when I think of you, I will remember you having a big heart, a generous nature, a wicked sense of humor, the coolest nickname in the group, and I will always think of you as being the best light guy in the whole world.
Kim

PS: I find myself thinking of Jeff every single day and the fun times at The Galaxy. I just remembered a task he often assigned to me during a show. If a band requested something particular regarding the lights before/after a specific song, then he would ask me to hold the set list and keep track of where we were so that he wouldn’t miss his cue to do the special thing that had been requested. This sounds easy since I knew pretty much all the songs and rarely left the booth during a show, except some bands loved to change up the order of the songs with no warning! I can’t tell you how many times he would fret over this while making a smart remark about it, but we would still get it right! I’ve sent myspace messages to a couple of bands who used to play there all the time asking them to add a comment on Braingell and/or myspace about how great it was to work with him. Hopefully they will get a chance to post something, but I heard them thank “the light guy” before, during and after the show often enough to know they greatly respected his work.

Hello,
My name is Ralph Espalin and I worked at the Galaxy Theatre for just about a year. I would really like to express my deepest sympathies to his family (hang tough Drew man,)and convey to what seems to be a never endless amount of good friends I barely met. I do consider myself very lucky to have both known and laughed (hard) with Jeff as his heart and dedication to good times and those fortunate to be around him is legendary. This man offered this world the absolute greatest sense of humor that was so contagious yet totally off the wall you just had to laugh with him. This was a good dude, the real deal, a true soldier for the cause and this is how I will remember him and his legacy will remain in my thoughts and my good memories forever.

Thanks man!
We Rocked!
