Shirley Crozier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 12 to May 14, 2010.
CROZIER Shirley Ruth Loving daughter of the late Agnes and Walter Payne of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully in Windsor on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of Dr. Grant Crozier for 62 years. Loving and adored mother of John & Lynne Crozier of St. Clair Beach, Douglas & Cynthia Crozier of London, Donna & Ernest Squire of Amherstburg and Rhonda & her partner Keith Looker of Caledonia. Dear grandmother of Brad Clark of Calgary, and David Clark of Windsor. She was the much cherished younger sister of the late Mildred & Donald Nicholson of Florida, survived by her nephew Donald B. Nicholson and Martha of Maryland and their families. Shirley will also be missed by her brother-in-law Clifford Crozier & his wife Bonnie of Don Mills and their children Patrick & Gina Crozier & their sons of Brampton, Mary Crozier, Stephen Crozier & his partner Chris- each in the Greater Toronto area, as well as numerous cousins throughout the United States. Shirley was an Honours Grad in French & German from the University of Western Ontario and also received her BLS (Library Science) from the University of Toronto. Since moving to Windsor in 1949, she devoted countless hours to the Metropolitan General Hospital Auxiliary for which she was awarded Life Membership for her continuous years of happy service. She was the first recipient of the Windsor Star Volunteer of the Year Award for devoting over 10000 hours of volunteer service to her community, including her time devoted to the Canadian Red Cross. In addition, Shirley was active for many years with the Friendship Centre of Lincoln Road United Church. She was a valued member of the Canadian Federation of University Women and also devoted many hours to the game of Bridge and a dominoes game, Mexican Train. She was a whiz at puzzles and at one time considered applying as a decoder expert with the Foreign Service. Along with her close family and friends, she enjoyed many happy and wonderful years at the family cottage near Sauble Beach. She enjoyed travel and cruise ships, especially with her family "to carry her bags". Visitation will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 1969 Wyandotte St. East on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until the Memorial Service to celebrate Shirley's life at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dawn Wheeler. Please join us in remembering Shirley by visiting her memorial at walterdkellyfuneralhome.com

Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of a wonderful family member. Shirley was my grandmother's (Loretta St. Antoine's) roommate on the 6th floor at Met hospital for a brief period of time. I was always drawn to her warm, gentle demeanor. What a lovely woman you have all lost in your lives. I pray that she went peacefully and I am certain that such a compassionate, selfless mother and grandmother will have left a legacy of love in her family.

We wouldlike to extend our sympathy to Shirley's family. Shirley was my Mom's room mate on the 6th floor at Met in March. Everyday we came in, no matter if she felt well or not, Shirley had a big smile for us and concern for my Mom. Her husband would always comment on how faithful my husband and I were visiting my Mom everyday. Many times Shirley and I would share a sly smile while our husbands took 40 winks in their chairs. Unfortunately my Mom lost her battle on April 11th, a very tough Friday morning to Sunday morning, after suffering a heart attack. She is at peace, where she wanted to be, with my Dad, not a nursing home, and we sincerely hope Shirley didn't suffer. She was a beautiful person, the short time we knew her.
