Derek WHITE Obituary
Born in Margate, Kent, England. Passed away in his 81st year on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County surrounded by family. Beloved husband for 59 years to Pauline of Kingsville. Much loved father to Derek (Deb) of Leamington, Jane (Doug) of Amherstburg, Ann DeGroot (Tom) of Komoka, and Peter (Angela) of Amherstburg. Cherished Grandpa to Christopher DeGroot (Michelle) of London, Whitney DeGroot of Guelph, Katie Lewis (Mitchell) of Windsor and Olivia White of Colchester. Special great-grandpa ("GG-Pa") to Sawyer Finlay of Windsor. Son of the late William and Rosemary White of Margate, England. Brother of Roy (late Maureen) of Burlington, Brian (Marion) of Canterbury, England and the late Barry (Anne) of Wokingham, England. Brother-in-law of the late John (late Hilda) Ringrose, the late Edward (late Jean) Ringrose, the late Amy (late Floyd) Denny, Douglas (late Elma) Ringrose of Kingsville, Grace (John) Mornan of Leamington, and Gilbert (late Lil) of Maidstone. Will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Served as a navigator in the Royal Air Force where he met the love of his life, Polly, while training in London, Ontario, and relocated to Canada to build a life with her. His passion for children and education led him to a rewarding career with the Windsor Board of Education serving as Principal at Mayfair, General Block, Percy P. McCallum, Hetherington, and Marlborough Pubic Schools. He was a golf enthusiast who loved his winters in Mrytle Beach, was a long-term member and past President of the Kingsville Golf Club, and rated golf courses for the Golf Association of Ontario. Member of the Kingsville Church of the Epiphany. At Derek's request, Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service to be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany with Canon Bryan Girling officiating. I was fortunate enough to teach under Derek's guidance at Marlborough, then later, played golf with Derek for the past 20 years. I truly enjoyed his company and respected his pathways in life. He will be missed.
