Pete Jr., Donna, and family, I am Burrel "Bunky" Whitley who played for Pete in the Atlantic Coast Professional League with the Hammonton (NJ) Bakers. He was a hard nosed good man who taught me how to be a real man. I used to take care of Pete Jr. when I was on the bench waiting for the defense to get us the ball back. Jr. would climb all over me just wanting to play and be a kid. We also just lost Jackie Rehman, one of our other running backs. Coach Pihos will always be in my memory as a man who helped me grow up the right way. God bless you all and receive him into his Kingdom.

Sept 15 th 1950 ... I remember it like it was yesterday. The BROWNS played the returning champs Eagles in thier very first NFL game.

Those were the days when real men played the game. No big paydays (The great Otto Graham made $15,000 that year) played in rain and snow etc, etc.

I recall Pete that night... great ball player for the Eagles...

It was a new era in football ... 35 - 10 BROWNS. The cost of a seat ? $ 3.75.

Donna and Pihos Family, I am sorry to hear of Pete's passing. I am honored and privileged to have taken care of such a wonderful spirited man. I wish I could have known Pete as the man he once was before Alzheimer's took over, but the man I worked with was so spirited and great. I will always remember him dancing in his bed to Elvis! Thank you for allowing me to take care of such a special man. He was so wonderful, that the staff "fought" over who would provide his care! I will always value my short-lived relationship with Pete and you. My prayers are with you all. God Bless.

When I was only a little boy, being raised in Philadelphia, the Eagles were the reigning champions of the NFL. Pete gave that little boy from Philly many a thrilling moment that this now old man holds as precious memories. May this wonderful memory maker rest in peace. Thanks Pete.

Pihos Family: Please remember Pete when he was not ill with that dreaded dementia. He was an outstanding citizen and athlete. As a young man who followed the Eagles in Shibe Park and elsewhere. he dazzled me and the fans with his athletic ability. May he now "Requiescat in Pace" (Rest in Peace). An Eagles Fan then, now and in the future. Pete, "thanks for the memories".

God bless Pete Pihos. I can remember him from the 1945 season at Indiana. He was a running back there along with George Taliafaro. That team won the Big Ten title. When Pete came to Phila. I wondered why they made him a receiver. (I'm an Eagle fan and season ticket holder.) When I saw him play I knew why. I think he could have played anywhere and been a success. As long as I breath, he will be remembered. And hopefully, after that.

I had the pleasure of transporting Pete Pihos several times back when I worked a truck for NuCare Ambulance. While his dementia was advanced even at that time, I felt awed just to be in the presence of a Pro Football Hall of Famer!!! Mr. Pihos will definitely be missed by all those who knew and loved him...May God be with the Pihos family, both now and in the days to come!

Pete Pihos bowled over my hometown team, the L.A. Rams in the 1949 NFL title game played in Los Angeles in the rain. He could not be stopped. I have the utmost respect for him and the clean hard way he performed as a professional. My condolences go to his family.

Pete was my longtime friend, dating back to Indiana University in 1941.We spent many times together. He was a gentle giant, very kind and always a man of his word. A friendlier fellow would be hard to find.. We need more men like Pete. He demanded perfection on the football field. He always had a good word to say. His death is a loss.
My condolences to Donna, Melissa, Lisa, Wes, Niki, and Pete jr.

The Indiana U football program has lost one of it's all time best players. I was an IU football recruit from Grand Rapids , MN in 1949 where the Eagles had their summer camp.I met Pete one time at an Eagle practice and he was a man of few words , but the hand shake lived with me for a long time.

God Bless his entire family.
