Albert Quandt Obituary

KINGSFORD, Mich. - Albert Waldemar Quandt, 86, of Kingsford died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his home. Mr. Quandt was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Hancock, son of Albert W. Quandt Sr. and Alice (Robinson) Quandt. He graduated from Hancock High School and attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, Ind. He graduated from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1942. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. On Aug. 24, 1945, he married Zelda S. Caudle in Salerno, Italy. He resided in the Houghton area until 1981, when he moved to Dickinson County. Mr. Quandt was the former president and chairman of the Hamar-Quandt Co., which later became 41 Lumber. He was active in the Houghton Rotary Club and Portage Lake United Church in Houghton and was a life trustee of the Michigan Technological University Fund. He was preceded in death by his wife; and two sisters, Martha Quandt and Harriet Quandt. Mr. Quandt is survived by a son, Stephen (Patricia) Quandt, of Spread Eagle; a daughter, Sara (Thomas Arcury) Quandt of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Marjorie of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren, David Quandt, Carol Quandt, Justin Arcury and Alice Arcury-Quandt; and several cousins. There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to The Michigan Technological University Fund, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931.
