I called and spoke to John when I transferred from Mary Baldwin to UGA. I had always heard how smart he was and that he was such a good human, and that he made everyone feel important. My maternal grandmother Nonne Medlin and my mother Victoria Foster Wilson spoke of John throughout my life. I called John in 1979 and we discussed family and then he wanted to know about my studies and what my goals were. He told me to call him as soon as I graduated. As life would have it, time rolled on. I worked in DC and Atlanta, but always thought I would call John. Had I called, John would have given me the advice I needed on a significant legal issue that I brought that ran past a decade. I called John too late..a year after I could have been able to speak with him. Illness in the family got in the way, my mother ('93, my grandmother, my brother (2011) each died. My father came to live with me. Somehow I thought time stood still and I would be able to speak to John. I could not write this the last 30 or so times that I have stopped on this page. Today I did. I admired John as I was a child and teen, as the family told of all his accomplishments. I admired John as I became an adult. I hope I get to talk with him one day at another place and time. To his family: I put him on a pedestal for all that he was (and always will be) and all that he accomplished on this Earth. I regret every time I think of him that I did not make that call right when he advised me to do so. A brilliant and kind soul, that I hope to meet on the other side one day. I am sorry it took me a decade to express condolences. Peace be with all in his family, Always.

I knew Mr. Medlin when he was at Parkway branch, when I was very young. He would always give me and my friend a lolipop. I also am proud to say I worked under him at Wachovia and he always had a smile and kind word.

To the family:
John Medlin was a role model for many of us in banking during his era. His legacy with Wachovia as well as the national banking scene will forever be an inspiration to present and future retail bankers.
The suddenness of his transition has to be a shock but remembering his many accomplishments should bring peace to soften your tears.

I had the pleasure of working for Mr. Medlin while worked for Wachovia for 23 and a half years. He was always a friendly man. My son when he was in elementary school drew a picture of the Reynolds Building and the old Wachovia Building and I sent it to him. Years later, I ran into him and he still had the picture. He will be missed. God bless you and the rest of the family.
